door handle swap
I recently changed the black outside door handles for a set I had painted to match body color.
If someone wants to change their handles to body color, I've got this set available--I don't intend to sell them, so I could offer to have them painted "your" color, and have you return your take-offs to me, or these could just be an extra set that floats from place to place for those that want to do this mod without having to put the car in a paint shop, or to be able to keep handles on your car, while the "floating" set is being painted.
Keeping track of their whereabouts would be on the "honor" system, basically--don't want anyone to get them and just hold on to them, if someone else is waiting to do the same thing. Actually, there should be at least a couple of sets of production textured black handles in this group already.
The textured finish of the stock black handles is not a big issue--the shop that painted mine used a filler primer and then sanded the handles to provide a smooth surface. It's way cheaper than getting a set of OE unpainted "smooth" handles, which may not be available in the US (not sure what G8 offered, if different from PPV).
UPDATE Feb 2014 - in the second photo below, I allude to losing a retaining bolt inside the door (driver's), so it may be a good idea to get a few spare bolts in hand before swapping handles - bolt is PN 92193949 - it's metric, but I have no specifics other than the hex head is 8mm.

Bill,
Can you get them painted our color, and I will send you mine? I will kick in some scratch for the paint work. Put it on my tab.

Re: door handle swap
I can do that!
I'll let you know what's involved on the cost side, should have some idea later today.

Re: door handle swap
Pontiac G8 V8 cars had smooth handles with chrome edging top and bottom, in body colour.
You can buy complete car sets of these pre-painted - (with chrome edging) handles in various colours.
The Pontiac G8 V6 cars had smooth handles in body colour with no chrome edging.
The only way to get these non-chome edged handles new is to buy all 8 pieces from GM unpainted and then get them painted in your body colour.

These 8 smooth non-chrome pieces (Pontiac G8 base model V6 style) have been painted red.

Thanks for the info--did not consult parts listings previously to dig this up.Crazy Paul wrote:Pontiac G8 V8 cars had smooth handles with chrome edging top and bottom, in body colour.

GM Parts Direct pricing with delivery & markup for these parts (outside of NC):
Total Charges: $423.28
Standard GM Retail Price for these parts is $543.59. Even shipped to your door, savings is $120.31 (22%).
And--as noted--once these parts are in hand, they still will need to be painted.
C.P., the G8 accessory handle colors match PPV colors only in 1 or maybe 2 cases--white & black, and I'm not even sure the black is "exact" match to PPV.
I had considered getting the accessory handles and then doing a color correction, but the masking would need to be perfect, and it would be too easy to hurt the chrome in the process through an errant stroke while sanding the painted areas--the extra masking effort (if a shop is doing the work) would tend to drive the price up, and I could imagine doing a color change on the G8 accessory (chrome) handles would cost at least as much as what it costs (at the same shop) to do a PPV handle color change.
So, my offer stands--a set of handles, on an exchange basis, and my paint shop can do the correct PPV colors for about $150 total for the 8 pieces, not including shipping. The textured surface of the PPV handles is taken care of by use of filler primer and proper sanding/prep before shooting the color and clear.

Save about $100 and get them shipped from Australia.Navy Lifer wrote: GM Parts Direct pricing with delivery & markup for these parts (outside of NC):

Look at the paint code on your build plate.
Bill is yours 18U = Evoke ?
80U and 11U will most likely be used on PPV. Someone can go and look at their build plate.

Re: door handle swap
No the paint code is not the same....I did originally purchase a set of Evoke (gray) handles, but it was much darker than the Alto Gray. My dealer allowed me to return them, and I purchased a set of the black/chrome handles, which ultimately ended up on Scott's (novadeuce) black car, which got me a set of stock PPV handles as a swap.
The PPV's are no longer using the alpha-numeric paint codes as found on G8, with some possible exceptions, but there are code matches with a number of the G8 colors (by different names) listed in your follow-up post just above this reply.

Re: door handle swap
I recently bought a full set of Chrome and White center door handles from a G8 Board member ($120.00 shipped) who was selling them in favor of de-chroming his G8. One thing I did notice was the center color piece could be removed from the handle to get repainted.
I did not have to do this as the G8 color for the white hot is the same color code as the Huron white.
But some other colors (like Gray) do not match up to any G8 color so if you are getting some other pieces painted you can get the handles pained at the same time. Makes sourcing them easier because it wont matter what color the center part is just as long as the chrome is in good condition.
And man, very easy to install, Don't even have to take the door panel off. nice.
Here is the handles disassembled :
Here are the parts yo would paint:
Here is a trick to removing /installing them. Put some electrical tape on the inside of your 8mm socket and press the socket on to the bolt. It will kind of wedge it in there and wont fall out in the door cavity when you take the bolt out. If it falls you are taking the door panel off (bummer)
