Camaro front hubs on a Caprice

Post by Houston6.0 »

Hello all, Im having trouble narrowing down an intermitten shake and vibration only at highway speed. The steering wheel shakes between 70 and 80 but not all the time, and I also have an intermitten vibration that sounds and feels like a wheel bearing but is also intermitten. The shake and vibration come and go independently of eachother. Both sides have no obvious play or noise when inspected. So far i have done brake rotors and pads (definitely warped), had my tires checked by a tire shop and balance checked, and just did KYB strut bushings last night. Next thing id like to try is wheel hubs up front but im on a tight budget with my son due next month. Rock auto has AC Delco hubs for a 2015 Camaro for 30$ each, any one tried them? Rock auto lists a lot of measurements for bolt pattern diameter etc. that differ from the caprice units, however if you look at other branded hubs they all list different measurements. Any advice is appreciated

You didn't indicate what year your Cap is. If a 2011-13, that's pretty much a no as the hubs on those are specific to the Cap and the G8 only.

And checking on 2014-17, that would also be a no as those hubs are specific to the Cap and the SS only.

Even though some dimensions may be the same, there might be some other factors that aren't specified, like thickness, mating bolt pattern and size, ABS sensor difference or its tone ring.

Don't discount the tires being the problem. I had a similar issue on a different vehicle. I had a similar vibration issue. And despite getting them balanced multiple times at different shops, I eventually got new tires and that took care of the issue.

I have a similar issue with steering wheel shake that is temperature dependent (shake in AM when cold going to work). I’m pretty sure it’s tires and I’ll update when I mount the new set I have. It’s the only thing that I can figure could cause the shake.

I have a '17 Caprice. I appreciate all of your input and please do let me know if the tires fix your issue. I do have a basically new set of Toyo Extenzas which i believe to be a very good tire but i agree that it isnt impossible for them to have some kind of issue.

I've balanced mine on a Roadforce Balancer and they balanced well. I'm thinking the body/cords take a set when parked and allowed to cool overnight and this brings on the shake. A hot day in the parking lot at work keeps them pliable and there's no shake on the 10 mile drive home.

From what I've read here these cars seem to be sensitive to front end shakes.
