TCC lockup HELP

Post by GavinD0006 »

Hello! I have question relating my 13’ Caprice.

I recently had gotten a fresh rebuild for my 6l80, while doing so I added a Circle D converter. As well as a trans-go shift kit. I have added 10% pressure to the apply for the billet converters needs, as well as zeroed out the slip tables.

My problem is in the gears I am allowing TC Lock up, it’s constantly hunting/applying releasing the second it gets into the set mph range. I have tried upping the MPH range as I was told the torque table may need to see more in order to lock but no still ZERO luck.

I have contacted a few local shops that are not willing to give out the information I need. As they want the business…understandable. Luckily they pointed me in the right direction stating there is an answer for me somewhere here in this forum.

The little info he gave me was it’s in a location I would never presume. Also stating the chance of there being an underlining miss fire that isn’t flashing a code is high. I was told the solution is all trial and error, but doing what exactly?!?

I unfortunately do not have a log to post. I do not intend to drive any more, assuming that’s putting the TCC under a lot of strain hunting like that. I am almost certain the converter itself is mechanically fine, as I can command a lock up and it will do so very smoothly.

I really appreciate any info y’all may have for me, please let me know if any other info is needed from me!!

Here's what I did on mine. I got rid of the gradual TCC lockup. When it engages, it's 100%, no slip. Then I limited it to just 5th and 6th gears. The lower gears don't need it. This was after a local tuner almost destroyed my tranny by maxing out the pressures and all the shifts were constantly banging hard and sometimes would feel like I was getting rear ended while coming to a stop. I just put the stock tranny tune back and did the above mods. It's been OK since except for the odd time it doesn't up-shift into 6th and I have to tap shift it up. That's probably because of damage by the tuner.

Talked to a well known local tranny builder and he's the one that told me to do this. The stock tune is fine with just these mods.

when i bought a 09 G8 that was heavily modified , i hated the 5 and 6th gear lock up , and crappy mileage , the mph was set at 80mph , my tuner i think had it locking up starting in 3rd , mileage went way , and it was alot nicer driving it daily

the car made 450+ whp , had a 3200 stall , had it not had the shift flare issues when going into 3rd and 4th(thank you GM) , it would have ran high 11's over 120mph , i do miss the car

I don't have any lockup on 1-3. I shift through them so fast it is pointless. I then played around with my 4-6 lockup settings until I was happy with where the car shifted and the converter locked/unlocked. It sounds like you need to adjust the shift tables and converter lockup tables. The Bluecat trans software can get you in the ballpark then fine tune to your liking. Drive around and datalog your shifts and converter slip. Adjust as needed until you are happy with the way it drives.
