Help with green / white wire in passenger foot well.

Post by Burner_00 »

My goal is to try to get this vehicle into its former police condition for car shows . So I'm starting to trace down all the old wires and identifying where things were installed before. One of the Mysteries is this wire in the passenger footwell area . I did a search on here and I couldn't find any definitive . I kept finding information about the upfitter package and hooking up to the rear wig wags along with others. I do not have the helm service manual. So I'm not sure what this harness is for and specifically this cut wire. They have it jumped together now but there is two leads that ran to the center console where the light control was I presume. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Burner,
Please got to our Home page and find the Factory technical manual for your car. There are several wiring diagrams in these manuals for the factory installed systems. The rear flasher system is controlled by the BCM. There is an input to the BCM that activates this function by grounding it. DO NOT apply voltage to this input. It will ruin the BCM.

Thanks Maurice,
When I read the upfitter document, it states" Separate control of the rear lamps flashing requires opening the blue/
green control circuit at the in-line connector terminal P181-F and application of switched
vehicle ground to the control wire in the forward compartment, P277-16. Power to the
blue/green wire must be OFF to flash rear lamps only. "
This wire has no blue in it.
if it is the separation of it, the color of the insulation marking doesn't match or I'm just confused. thanka again.

I think that wire is for the horn relay. Police cars use it to change the siren tone or to work the electronic air horn. Does your stock horn work now? If so, disconnect one of those connectors and try again. If the horn stops working, you'll have your answer.

Burner,
I was pointing you to the technical manuals as a reference guide. I know that the two blue wires aren't for the wigwags. Maybe they are referenced elsewhere in the manual? Maybe pull up the carpeting or look above the heater box for the harness that the rear wigwag control wire?
