Headliner repair?

Discussion on body issues/mods, appearance, interior/trim, and detailing (i.e. how to keep your car looking showroom new, or a reasonable facsimile thereof...).

That, or bite the bullet and get a new one.

I'm certain they probably went in before the windshield was glued on, but I seem to remember reading somewhere here where someone mentioned they came out through the back door. I would be hallucinating, though...
I doubt you will find one that is any good. All of the headliners in my fleet have gone belly up, including the wife’s car that has been garage kept for the last 7 or so years. I just pull the cloth down and vacuum the deteriorated foam off of the board. I have gotten use to the look, plus I have too many other projects to spend the time on cosmetics. I have always been a function over beauty type of person.
That IS an option. Same boat here, too. Too many other projects at the moment, including a new headliner and carpet, as well as other updates to the interior of our 92 Camaro. It's just us in the car, sometimes with the 4-legged kids, and they. certainly don't GAS about what's up!!

When I do it, I'll throw a pic up. on my build page to show it off!! :P

A few years back I owned a Porsche Cayenne SUV, it had the alcantara headliner and naturally, on schedule around 100K it started to pooch down. Just the headliner itself was $3k before installation. So I consulted the owner of a local Porsche service center and his advice to me was... keep the original headliner in-place and up via Mr. Swingline. People want to see the original headliner up, if it has some stratigicly placed staples no biggie, it will still sell. Where you get into trouble is trying to glue it back in place or changing the color with new fabric, takes it away from the stock look. Buyers will never see staple holes in the backer board.

So, I took his advice, the headliner held in place, and I got $15k for it when I sold it. That +/- $4500 I would have dropped into it for a new headliner would be soaked-up money, you'd never see a dollar extra out of it for increased profit at resale time.

Good advice.

Man, that's COMPLETELY opposite of what I'd think would fly for a Cayenne!! One would think that Porsche SoccerMom wouldn't stand for anything but a perfect headliner in her family truckster, and even a replacement would be better than stapled to the ceiling. What will Marge think?!?

My Caprice was in storage for awhile and I just pulled it out in January. After exposure to the humidity in the winter time and the extreme heat in the summer time, the headliner sagged. I took it to an upholstery shop in town and they gave me a $550 quote. They got it done in one day. The material they used match the original. There are some dents in the new foam, but I'm sure it'll work itself out in the heat.

Ouch! My how times have changed!! I can live with the 'foamy' headliner for a while, but know how nice it looks when it's done.
