I just wanted to give everyone my experience with passing smog after performing a DOD delete, either a full DOD delete (mechanical and tune) or just a tune. I performed a full DOD delete after buying my car with a broken lifter and bent pushrods. I will list the parts I used below. The only thing I did on the tune was turn off DOD with the master switch and increase activation speed. I did have a few permanent codes in my system: P0106 and P3400. After driving the car for 300 miles and multiple starts, I took the car to get smogged, and it passed with no problems. The car feels great, and I used the stock LS3 cam to limit the amount of tuning I needed.
LS3 cam (12623063)
GM headgasket set
Felipro timing cover set
pushrods measuring 7.400
valley cover, non-DOD
Arp head bolts
Cam bolt (stock)
ARP Harmanic Balacer Bolt
LS7 lifters
New cam timing sprocket (the old one had a damaged keyway).

Ask any questions, and I will answer in the comments.

Very cool.
I'm hoping you can pass SMOG a second time with the same permanent codes in there.

Re: DOD and Smog California
That is awesome! Can I ask a huge favor that I have been dying to know for the past several years. Can you pull up your CVN numbers in HPTuners and then go to https://tis2web.service.opel.com/tis2web/ (enter VIN, select K20, select programming) and pull up the stock CVN numbers to compare them? Tell us which ones match/don't match. My theory is that CA is checking the CVN for "Engine Diag. Calibration Module". Meaning I think you can tune the DOD out as long as you don't turn off emissions checking, i.e. setting OBD codes to no report, you should pass. For example you could change the fueling and timing but can't change the rear O2 sensors to no report. But I need someone to verify.

Re: DOD and Smog California
Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for. I am pretty sure that CA is only looking at the Engine Diag. Calibration Module to verify the CVN matches. Meaning as long as you don't set your rear O2s to no report for example then you should be fine to tune for a DOD delete and modify the fuel and timing maps. Just don't change anything in the Engine Diag section in HPTuners. LOL. I live 2,000 miles away so I can't test this theory but based on all my research I think that is correct.
