New2me 2012 6.0 PPV
Hello to all!
Purchased my first Caprice PPV last week. A 2012 6.0.
Having been a big 9C1 B Body hoarder for well over twenty years, now I have something totally new to learn.
So my PPV is factory black, 86,000 miles, never had a spotlight or lightbar. and has carpeting. Doubt it is a 9C3 because it does have the police console in between the seats. I have not been able to look at the production codes because once I picked it up, it went straight to the shop. Just didn't have the time, and still don't know exactly where the sticker is located.
I purchased it as-is non running, and I'm hoping it's just a starter or relay issue. When I finally got the battery charge up (it was DOA), it seems that every thing turns on, but the starter won't even click. Fingers crossed that the engine didn't shit the bed!
There are some oddities with this car that I can't figure out.
First off, the agency which owned it, apparently drilled holes in both the headlights...........one on top, the other right in front of the high beam area. I am assuming it was either due to the lights fogging, or overheating??? Any ideas? Shocked at how much new headlights are for this car, hoping they at least just sell the front lense and I don't have to buy the whole assembly.
The other oddity, the electrical in the trunk, specifically by the auxiliary battery........there are circuit breakes there???? I am having a hard time distingushing which eletrical wiring belogs to the car, and what is left over wiring from the equipment the car had. Does the auxiliary battery have to be in the car? Is it necessary?
What's the story with the keys? Are they a dealer item only? Is programming necessary? How do you open the fob to change the battery?
Another concern of mine is wether there are dealer repair manuals availale for these cars.
Im sure I will keep coming up with many questions in the next weeks, and I will like to thank all of you in advance that might provide with answers or guidance.
I am hoping to move on to some upgrades soon, hopefully starting with cam and exhaust.
Thanks

Re: New2me 2012 6.0 PPV
Hi New2Me 2012
Welcome to the group!!
I have no idea what the 2 small holes in the the headlight lenses are. The large one in the reflector below the high beam bulb was most likely an agency installed strobe light.
You are correct. That is an aftermarket circuit breaker mounted in the picture. None of the aux battery stuff is needed unless you have something specific hooked to the wiring which is typically in the passenger side footwell area. This battery and components were specific for police "add-on" equipment and not used for anything to operate the car.
Keys can be had on ebay. They are the same as a Pontiac G8 key. As long as you have one original key and fob, you can program replacements yourself. There a threads on doing this elsewhere on this website. Also threads on opening the fob.
A 3 volume set of dealer manuals were available for these. I bought a set on eBay about 2 years ago. Not sure how difficult it is to find these or how many dealers actually had copies of them?
Hope these answers help.
Welcome again and good luck!!

If you remove the aux battery stuff on the passenger side, just make sure you disconnect the heavy cable that runs over to the main battery, at the main battery.

i know the car was in Brooklyn. Where are you from ?

Re: New2me 2012 6.0 PPV
I am both in the city and upstate, Near Monticello.
The bid was risky, but figured might end up doing engine work anyway if I wanted to do mods..... so took a shot. The car seems to be in pretty decent condition, better than it looks. The money I was going to spend for shipping from somewhere else, I can put into the car.
It was also getting hrder finding a non white one, and alot of the non white ones coming up for sale, were well over 100,000 miles, plus this was also a black one with no spotlight hole...
Now if I can only get it running ......

Welcome! The first thing I would do is start to read the old threads in the forum subsections that are germane to your car. A lot of the questions you have or may have are already answered in the forum system. Also go into our file section and download the files for your car, the police configuration guide is a very good reference to have.
Have fun with your build!
