2013 PPV Weekend Warrior/Mad Max Build

Post by BarryM »

Back in July, I got a good deal on a 2013 PPV with 155K that drank oil faster than gas and smoked like a freight train.
My plan is to build a fun, sleeper type sedan for dragstrip and Saturday nights.

Started with a DOD delete and went from there . . . parts are listed below.

Camshaft
TSP Stage 1 LS3 N/A Camshaft #25-TSP225236 225/236 .629"/615" 114 LSA, 109 ICL

Heads
Texas Speed and Performance CNC Porting and CNC Valve Job of # 823 casting L92/LS3 (rectangular port) heads -Skim cut to head sealing surface, .005”
PAC Springs
LS7 Lifters
Titanium Retainers
TSP Chromoly Pushrods
LS3 rockers with CHE bushings
ARP2000 Head Bolts
NGK IZTR5B11 Plugs

Taylor Thundervolt wires and boots

Shortblock
Melling 10295 Oil Pump
Improved Racing Pickup Tube Brace
LS2 Lifter Trays
LS2 Timing Chain
LS2 Chain Dampener
LS3 Cam Retainer

Trans
Camaro 6L80 deep transmission pan and wide mouth filter
Torque Converter - Precision Industries 3600
Lokar dipstick

3.27 Limited Slip Differential

Kooks Headers, No catalytic converters, 2.5" SOLO exhaust

Roto Fab Cold Air Intake

Hoosier DOT Drag Radial Tires 245/40-18

PB1117SS - PowerBond Race Performance Harmonic Balancer

Charles Barber Tune - (awesome guy to work with)

First time to track, best was 12.3 at 110

Slight MAF calibration change to tune
Added a couple of Summit SS Mufflers to tame the crack of the SOLO exhaust - (worked great)

Second time to track 12.1 at 113

'Tentative' Winter plans

More gear (probably 3.91's)
Wide Band
Lingenfelter Timing Retard Launch Controller
Nitrous Outlet LS3 kit
Colder plugs, probably NGK BR7EF

Winter plans update:
  • Nitrous Outlet 200hp single nozzle kit fed with two ten lb bottles(A buddy hooked me up with a dual bottle bracket with heaters)
So there will be 20 lbs on tap at 900 psi when needed :D
  • Lingenfelter Timing Retard Launch Controller
  • Jannetty Racing Posi Mod kit, new axle seals (staying with 3.27 gears)
  • Oil Catch Can
  • Widened Factory Rear Steelies and a larger Hoosier DOT Radial ( 245/40-18 --> 315/30-18 )
  • Shift Box
Loving this 'Sleeper Sedan'

Looks like that car has some pretty good 60' times. What are they?

How wide did you go with the wheels, and did you go just inboard, or both sides?

Best sixty foot last year was 1.64

Still working on the wheels, looking like inboard only +1 1/2"

Ahh, I see, work in progress. :)

Have you looked at the base Camaro steel wheels? I think they're about the same dimensions of the Caprice wheels, and made of a much thinner gauge steel, which would lower the rotating mass of the wheel, I think, significantly. The Caprice steel wheels are HEAVY.

Wheels are nearing completion, my buddy did an excellent job welding.
They are tig'd on both inside and outside.
Rims were cut on a lathe, (pictures look a little distorted from wide angle lens)
Four rims were cut to make two.

Yes I know they are heavy - all the more incentive to make more power. :D

325/45-18 Hoosier DOT Drag Radial Tires are to be delivered today

After getting mounted and fitted, I will have more pictures.

Nice work on the wheels. That's some good welds. I'd still look at repeating the process on Camaro wheels. To paraphrase Colin Chapman: 'Power matters off the line, weight matters everywhere'. ;)
