Charging system issues. Any suggestions
So I'm just wrapping up installing my turbo kit and I decided to install a new ac delco alternator. My old one worked fine just wanted to replace it because it is hard to get to with the new turbo kit. I drove the car home for the first time last night and got a message on the dash to service the charging system. And it went into power saver mode. Does anyone know if there are any relays or anything between the alternator and the battery post under the hood or did I just possibly get a bad alternator?

Did you change to an underdrive harmonic balancer? That can affect charging.
Have you got a tune to match the turbo? You would also want to get a proper tune done, because RPM settings can affect the alternator charging correctly as well.

During your Turbo Install did you remove any engine grounds? Put them Back?
What year and how many miles on the car?
And the AC Delco alternator you put on was it the HIgh amp one of one from the G8?

It is a 170 amp ac delco from rock auto i don't think i missed any grounds but I will go back and check only other possibility might be that the wire that plugs into the alternator may have touched the down pipe and melted

You can check if you got continuoty between the alternator post and the Jump post under the hood. I believe it intercepts there. I do remember there was a fuse-able link. Let me see if I can find the reference to that.

I think X55J will be the key. Now if we could just find it.

Actually I think if X55J blew that would take out the front fuse box and you would be asking, how do I get my key out of the ignition. because it would be stuck.

Yeah the key still comes out so I'm good there. The battery just continues to die while the car is running I'm going to check the grounds on the front and rear of the engine again. I'll throw a fluke meter on the back of the alternator when I can get it on the lift it is very hard to get to it now that the turbo kit is installed
