Value Tip - Hood Lift Struts

Post by smwalker »

A member on the FB page posted a money saving tip tonight. If your hood struts are not holding up your hood any more the factor replacements are about $50 a side:
Support Strut - GM (92246947)
See a set of 2 on AMazon for $42 - better deal.

He found the ones for a 02-08 Dodge Ram 1500 truck are about the same and work fine. Search "GS0001 hood lift" about $17 a set on Amazon.

I would not think our hood would weight any more than a truck hood.

+1 on the Ram struts. Bought the 18 dollar pair on Amazon and they're perfect length.

Checking on RA, they do list one for $11 for the Caprice specifically but it doesn't say it's compatible with the G8.

Checking the GM part number, it says that one only fits the Caprice so it's specific only to the Caprice.

I can also confirm the Ram struts work great! A bit firmer/harder to close than I suspect stock shocks to be, but does the job!
