Some progress. CLD Tiles applied to roof:

A layer of Melamine Foam. Easy stuff to work with. Roof Rails mostly holding it in place. Just a few spots of of glue to keep everything else in place.

In addition to the one layer in the roof I did extra layers of 3/4 material to the back of the headliner. down the center was 2 layers thick. Then I laid out where the cross bars are in in the roof in relation to the headliner and avoided those areas with an additional layer but put a layer everywhere else I could.

Floor is taking the longest as I thought it would. Lots of curves and different levels to account for:

Rear deck came out real nice:

Doors, was not able to use as many CLD tiles in the inner door skin since there are such big holes for the speakers and the deep water bottle holder really protrudes into the door:

wow that's a ton of work but I'm sure you will enjoy the results. Any other source for that type of foam in the ceiling? it seems like its very similar to the magik eraser type sponge things which they practically give away on ebay like 100 pieces for $9 straight from Cheeena to your door but the cost of everything you list is probably prohibitive to most guys on here.

It is exactly what magic eraser is made of with the exception that it is treated to be hydrophobic, as far as I know SDS is the only person that offers it that way (I searched a bit). Not sure how important that is in the roof without a sunroof, i mean apart from moisture in the air I do not think it will ever see drop of water. But they do suggest to use it in cavities that are static (no windows and such) and those are a bit lower on the car and possible water could enter so best not to have a sponge like material in those areas that is not hydrophobic. I am using the foam in the kick panels and the C pillar in addition to the roof.

Yea definitely not cheap and so far his estimate of materials has been spot on.

Taking apart an SS I and finding all sorts of cool sound proofing items they get that are left off the caprice. Will attempt to list a few of them as I go.

Fender Well Fillers:

The SS (at least in 15) get those felt type front wheel well liners, they are kind of flimsy compared to the hard plastic ones the caprice gets but I bet they produce less noise from items hitting them. They also have behind them in between the cabin floor and the fender liner a part called a "Filler". Really just a block of form fitted styrofoam. Not sure if it is for sound insulation or just to help support the back of the felt fender liner. But I could see how it might cut down on road noise.

Left: 92266076

The catalog lists the part fitting 2012-2017 caprice and SS so I assume it would fit an 11 as well just did not make the listing.

And as I mentioned the fender liners are the new felt type liners you see on newer cars. I imagine they are going to them because they are lighter but I would also guess a stone whacking them is silent compared to a hard plastic liner:

Sm, how does the headliner remove, and do you have the vinyl flooring? If so, how does that peel up?

Headliner, basically take out everything from the interior, then it just comes down and out one of the back doors. Have to bend it a bit to get it out but it snaps back into shape.

Vinyl flooring is just the same as carpet. It has some foam backing that forms it to the floor and there are a few spots of glue in the front footwell but nothing to stop you from just pulling it up. YOu have to separate the left and right sides under the dash/ac unit. It is designed to separate from each other by a perforation line so just give it a good yank to break it.

Here you can see the perforation:

Much appreciated, hopefully it's not too laborious. Headliner might be too much but I'm definitely doing the trunk, doors, and hopefully the floor.

I suggest going the extra mile for the headliner/roof. There is nothing up there, like a big tin can!!

When it rains all I hear is the rain hitting the windows, it's weird, but quiet!!

Also a G8 guy tackled this as well: He did really well on the floor, I gave up to easy, that stuff is hard to work with.

Hey Steve (smwalker)
I'm about to get the (felt type)front wheel liners and filler pieces from the SS. I wanted to ask if it has made a difference that you can notice? Also will the rear wheel liners from an SS fit the PPV? Thank you in advance!!

I have not installed them yet as my project is not that far along (sadly)

They rear felts will fit the PPV though I did checked that at some point.
