Another New Guy from Washington

Post by Kilian »

New dude here from Western Washington. I just picked up a 2013 Caprice 9c1 that is a former Washington State Patrol car. I've had an eye on these cars to a degree since they were first announced but now that I actually own one the real learning has started. I'm an ex-LEO but my department went from Vic's and Explorer's to Charger's and Durango's so it's cool to finally see what I was missing out on. The previous owner bought it from auction and put these interesting aftermarket wheels on but left it otherwise as-is. Long term I want to do DOD delete and a mild build. Short term I need to get the high beams working, and might only have DRL's since I don't see any headlight light on the dash at night but at least I have some lights. The front passenger wheel bearing also sounds shot, which would probably account for the ABS Fault, traction control and stabilitrak messages. I'll probably go ahead and change the oil, fuel, and air filters too and run some fuel system cleaner through it for good measure. A buddy also just offered me a set of Camaro 20's he had laying around so I'm sure I'll take him up on those. I'm enjoying the hell out it so far.

Thanks Mooseman! I've got a little time to kill at work and am currently subscribing to threads like a mad man. Already ordered flip keys after reading one thread, and am no doing all research I can on the radio options between White and LSXExtreme. I'm really hoping for Android Auto but I've got plenty more research to do still.

Well heard the beautiful clank of a stuck lifter much sooner than I was hoping. Bought the tool to unstick it, pulled everything off, and noticed it that it's cyl #8 not one of the DOD cylinders. Now aggressively researching DOD deletes and engine swaps. Leaning towards swapping in an LS376/525 to gain some power and a warranty. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to read everything I can on this engine but most things I'm reading say "direct swap" and I'm just trying to figure out how direct we're talking. Whether that means new injectors and a converter or if it's a legit direct swap.

Hey did you ever figure out what was going on with your daytime running lights / headlights? I think I'm having the same problem low beams are really dim and I'm not sure if it's even the low beams or if it's just the DRLs. Let me know what you discovered plz

Ya I did. I started tracking down the wiring from the headlights and realized there had been connectors on both sides of the flasher module that was mounted near the passenger side headlight. One connector was plugged into the module, the other connector was just unplugged but there were a number of wires cut on the other side of the module. I decided to try to plug the two connectors into each other since all the wire colors were the same and boom all my lights work now.
