New Caprice Owner From the Middle East

Post by magic »

Hello fellow caprice owners.

I'm an Owner of 2012 Chevy Caprice LS (Civilian Variant) 6.0L with FE2 Suspension.

Excited to being approved to join the board, I'm pretty sure my journey here will be very informative and fun.

If there is any question regarding differences between our civilian models and your ppvs you want me to provide i will be more than happy to provide them.

I just finished my few suspension upgrades order from RockAuto which consists of New all around monroe severe duty struts/shocks. Monroe strut bushings. rubber insulators and springs seats and rear PPV springs. They are on their way to a shipping forwarder to forward it to me to kuwait.

We only have FE2 replacements for V8s, FE1 for V6s and FE3 for the SS models in kuwait But the FE3 are out of stock everywhere locally.

We dont have the PPV heavy duty suspension parts here with our somehow messey highways and pothole filled streets I would prefer the higher ride height.

For my bad luck I cant locate front PPV coilsprings anywhere online and have been told they are out of stock from every online dealer i have contacted.

Wish me luck on my hunt!

Welcome! Certainly good to have different models here. Post some pics of your ride. It's interesting to see the similarities and differences, one of which is the wheelbase.

One thing I'm curious about is your cluster. My '11 has the North American PPV programming and it doesn't show the gears when in manual mode. I noticed that I may have the option to program it using Middle-East settings. Anything I should know about how the cluster displays? Is everything in Arabic or English?

We've talked EMAIL about your spring problem, but welcome!

Check this link out to an old post, NavyLifer goes through coil springs for these cars pretty extensively;

Hope it helps. I looked at Moog and they didn't have a substitute spring up for the Caprice, their tech support may be able to help via EMAIL or call though. A VPN tunnel is your friend to call the US!

Thanks
Eric

Here are some quick pictures of my caprice. Instrument cluster is in english and in KMs instead of miles.

Manual Speed Indicator shows and also the shifting profile (Normal Shifting and Sport Shifting.)

If there are anymore details you would like to know just ask and I will be more than happy to provide more info.

Keep in mind this is with shot suspension, Parts are on their way from RockAuto, Monroe sever duty struts all around, Struts mounts all around and PPV rear springs.

Waiting on PPVSteve to ship the fronts, Also got camaro 18" Steelies that will go on the caprice.

The wheels are standard LS 17" alloys, The LTZ trim got different wheels and a little more options.
Both LS and LTZ got FE2 suspension standard. SS trim got FE3 suspension.

Caprice Royale is the highest trim and the most hp rated one.

Royale and SS only options that came with sunroof.

Caprices been in the middle east since 2007. first they were equipped with 4L60E, Then 6L80E later on, end of 2009 or early 2010.

We don't have 18" steelies here, Standard is what i have on my caprice 17" alloys.

The brembo brakes and all the other options and upgrades did not come on any caprice.

Those all options came with the Lumina SS, Which is rebadged Pontiac G8 same as the GT and GXP came in three trims same as the G8 V6, V8 6.0L and V8 6.2L manual 6 speed.

Cool. Thank you!

So the speedo only has km/h? Ours here can switch from km/h to MPH. It's not stamped on the speedo face itself but switches using an LED in the background.

Now I wonder if this will affect the speedo readout or the option to switch will go away. I do want more the shift indicator rather than the ability to switch to MPH since we're in km/h in Canada too.

I never tried switching it mph but will give a try.

I think to make it work you will need to flash the body module, But don't take me on that since I have no if its correct, All I know if its the same as 03-13 GM trucks, you definitely need to flash the body module.

Also to spread more information about spare parts specially struts.

We do have Gabriel Ultra Struts for the caprice, I can't find them online anywhere in the states but maybe you guys can find them locally.
