Rubbing after lowering with Camaro 18s
Rubbing after lowering with Camaro 18s
Is anyone else running Camaro 18 inch wheels and lowering springs? I just put Tein springs on in the front and now the driver's side is rubbing when hitting bumps going straight. These aren't even all that low compared to some of the other springs you guys use. I still have the stock super stiff 2011 struts and 235 tires on it too. It looks like the inside edge of the fender is shaving off the outside edge of the tread.
So is there something I can do or do you guys think these wheels just don't have enough offset?

Re: Rubbing after lowering with Camaro 18s
looks like its rubbing the upper plastic liner , and i think that upper one is supposed to be tucked behind the lower liner
Re: Rubbing after lowering with Camaro 18s
It does rub the plastic liner as well but some metal part of the fender is shaving off the top corner of the tire tread. That little flap of tire in the second picture wasn't there before.
Re: Rubbing after lowering with Camaro 18s
being those are the 6th gen camaro wheels , their offset does push them out farther than the oe wheel sits
you might need to roll the inside lip of the fender some
from what i remember with my old G8 , which i had tiens on , yours looks a bit lower

Well shoot, ok then. I might try and find a different set of wheels in that case. I hate to go messing with the body panels since parts for these are getting harder to come by

I have the same camaro rim with lowering king springs. I rolled the fender and ground down the fender/bumper cover screw flange.
The fender is double walled and difficult to bend. The flange is probably cutting the tire shoulder.

Re: Rubbing after lowering with Camaro 18s
These wheels are +32mm offset - the Zeta sedan suspension used +48mm offset for the same width wheel. That means this wheel is pushed out 16mm, so having a rub issue is no surprise. I've found that 35-38mm is the least offset the chassis/body will tolerate without rub.
What does surprise me is the guys running 20" Gen6 Camaro front wheels, with +25mm offset, and saying there's no rub issues, or even the rear wheels at +39mm offset.

I'm rubbing in the rear with the factory SS springs and I'm on the factory tire size 18s. Are these wheels a different offset than the factory steelies?

That Camaro 18 in picture is 7.5" wide instead of 8.5, and is from Zeta platform, although it's also an option wheel on Gen6 (Alpha) cars, I think.
I ran the earlier version if this wheel and don't recall any issues, but never with SS springs.
Your car looks quite low for SS (rear) springs - is the trunk loaded?

I had some things in the back, car was loaded in this picture but I still get a slight scrub on bumps even unloaded. I do still have both batteries in my car but I was not expecting the SS springs to be this low! I think I'm going to play around with a fender roller and maybe some spring rubbers.Navy Lifer wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 9:00 pmThat Camaro 18 in picture is 7.5" wide instead of 8.5, and is from Zeta platform, although it's also an option wheel on Gen6 (Alpha) cars, I think.
