weird slop in brake pedal?

Post by Rewiredllc »

My brake pedal has been annoying me for awhile now... its strange. If you get on them normal its fine but if you get on them hard there is a weird moment of slop where you can feel the pedal click and it travels down just a tiny bit. Just wondering if anybodys run into this before. It feels like its something in the linkage. I guess I'm climbing under the dash.... boo

I suspect you're momentarily hitting ABS. That 'click' you feel is the ABS pump cycling pressure on and off to keep the brakes from locking. I get that in our '02 GMC 2500HD sometimes, especially when trying to stop quickly on cool mornings, especially when towing the race car.

Mine does that while stationary. Haven't noticed it while driving coming to a stop although I don't really stand on them that hard as the ABS would likely kick in. I wouldn't be concerned over this.

I don't think its the pump because it does it when the car is not moving.... same as mooseman. I'll have a friend listen/feel the pump while I apply the pedal to confirm. Feels mechanical like in the pedal linkage. I'm gonna crawl under there and take a look. I'll report back.

I've now noticed that it does this also while moving if pushing just a little harder so I think this is normal. It feels like a step.

simplest thing next is to change the brake fluid . Rule that out.

i flushed the system as well and no change, also looked and all the linkage inside the car and found everything is nice and tight. I also can feel the notch when the car is not running , my next move is to pull the master cylinder away from the master , if the notch is still there its in the booster, if not problably the master
