Rear end options for my V6 Caprice
Will a rear end from a 6.0 2014 Caprice swap into a 2012 3.6 Caprice? My diff is going out and I found a full rear end (minus brakes) from a v8. Will this work? If so is there anything that I need to know?
Re: Rear end options for my V6 Caprice
It will physically fit but what's the gearing with the V6? If it's the same, then no problem. If it has a higher ratio (i.e. 3.27) and you're swapping in a 2.92, with the V6, it will become a dog. Great for mileage, terrible for takeoff.

Re: Rear end options for my V6 Caprice
The V-6 diff on 2013 has a different flange size than the same year V-8 car. I just did a V-6 swap into a V-8 chassis and that was the only part that I overlooked as being different. Don’t know if the flange can be swapped out or not. Would be best to find a friendly parts person at a GM dealer and let them look at some of the repair parts to see what is interchangeable.

Re: Rear end options for my V6 Caprice
LFX V6 cars all have the 2.92 ratio stock from the factory. And... a lot of these cars were NOT provided with the G80 option (my car included). Open rear... bleh. As long as you're not going to autoX the car or expect it to win road races it's an OK setup though.
We've covered the 2.92 debacle here before, it was a late-stage alteration to get the EPA fuel economy figures up a bit in order to make the car more palatable to fleet buyers. And it does bump the top end slightly, just takes longer to get there - these cars were all originally designed for 3.27's. I'd love to see what a LFX car would do with 3.45's or 3.73's so we have some comparison.

all caprices are 2.92's
guess the guibo's(rubber u-joints) are different between them

Not bad, do you DD the car? How's the fuel economy with that gearing?
Have you done any track passes with it, any 1/4 mi times?
Thanks

Re: Rear end options for my V6 Caprice
you best crawl under your car and read the diff tag , its 2.92
GM did not offer any different ratios in the caprice , and there was no swapable diff sold in the US with 4.10s
you could be thinking of your FIRST gear ratio
