Another 3.45 thread...

Post by Willigaf »

So if you follow me close enough to pull my hair(you don’t lol) you know I snagged a 2011 3.45 for $300 Tuesday.

I’ve read through the many swap threads here and I’m not worried about the actual install.

My first question is about the seals and the lubes.

From Maurice’s write up, a quart of the (old style)lube and a small bottle of friction modifier and he got lucky with the original seals.

From a Camaro page, a tsb recommends a new style seal and lube that already contains the friction modifier. The old style seal being prone to leak with the new lube.

Rockauto appears to have the old style seal. Or at least it doesn’t match the part number in the Camaro page pic I’ll post.

But mostly I want to know if I’ll be ok using the old style seals and old style lube/modifier since you need more than the 1 quart of the new style lube, adding to the cost and space taken up on a shelf with the leftover bottle.

Thanks to you guys and a youtuber who replaced the seals on his back in a Camaro I think I can do this at a time of day the neighbors will actually have to dial 911 to report me for doing the job outdoors. (Long story)

Yeah, that's the number I just installed which I thought was the new number, but I can't comment on the lube type as I installed a TrueTrac which takes a completely different type of gear oil.

I also used those seals and just Mobil 1 75w90LS so far the only noise is from using the poly bushings, just hear a bit of whine on coast. Clearly need a louder radio/exhaust.

Xcid I have been cautioned to use the exact right kind of gear oil by my best bowtie buddy lol. (Due to the limited slip).

Have you put many miles or abuse on yours since using the Mobil juice?

Yes Ive beat it, several hundred miles now, zero issues other than traction.... My understanding of that GM additive is that its from the 1960s when the oil tech was clearly different it was originally whale fat based and made the oil more "slippery?" , note they now sell 2 versions of their own oil one wit and one wit out, both synthetic based depends on what equipment you have. All the oil companies seem to sell a gear oil that says limited slip ready on the label, YRMV.

What about getting the 1LE rear diff with it's 3.91 dirt? Has anyone tried those? With the factory running gear or a LS3 and Tremec 6 speed. I'm really wanting a PPV to swap a LS3 and Tremec 6 speed with a 1LE diff.

I put 3.91s in my 3.45 rear. What do you want to know? Not sure what you mean by "dirt".

 Auto correct turn diff into dirt, sorry lol. I've had cars with aggressive gearing I mean my Trailblazer SS is 4.11 on 28" tires. My Procharged Silverado was 4.11 but since it's build changed I'm doing the 4.11s in my LQ9 243 head Fast LSXRT intake Stage 3 BTR cam Yukon. I'm curious how the 3.91s feel compared to the 3.45s with the 6L80E or Tremec if you have swapped that in. Because my plan is LS3, Tremec, and LSA.
