That's a good vid. He also shows how to completely blank out the VIN so the radio look s like a new one to any car it is installed in.

Good info on the permanent codes. The state does the 200/15 thing to help people get through the process. They figure if a code does not come back current in that time it is probably OK. Not sure you want to take just any 12 volt source. I believe the feed from the BCM is a steady 12.0 volt source so the switches hath work on resistance can get a steady 12.0 volt reading no matter the vehicle voltage.
