As any experienced Chevrolet dealership technician will tell you, calibrating your Turboencabulator is very important. Without proper calibration, side fumbling may result which will negatively impact air resistance and result in increased viscosity for internal components, possibly leading to a noticeable loss of horsepower. Further, operating the device without proper calibrations may induce increased wear & tear which will NOT be covered by warranty, whether GM OEM or after-market policies.
Use the following steps to calibrate your Turboencabulator;
1) Connect the special GM interface to the OBD-II port in the car. This interface is IEEE approved for multiple carlines within Chevrolet as it is also used by Holden, Buick, and Daewoo. We haven't been able to get the part number on the interface yet however it may be available as a legacy GM part.
2) Connect the interface to your laptop's serial port. Due to the uniqueness of the interface, you MUST use a 25-pin serial connector (DB-25). A DB-9 will not work as it will induce unsatisfactory signal leakage into the interface.
3) Reboot your laptop and enter DOS mode.
4) Turn your ignition to the "on" position but DO NOT start the car. Go to the "Y:" drive. Your laptop will interface with the special sub-directory in the BCM and access the Turboencabulator's operating system. An engineer named Haggart wrote the first basic program back in the late 1960's and it still operates in the same basic self-executing methodology today due to the elegant coding and styling of the system.
5) Depress the "C" key to enter calibration mode. Your "return" key will initiate the procedure. This may take a while since the operating system is rather old and you will see no prompts or instructions from the screen, so go to the local convenience store and buy some beer.
6) After sufficient time to chill down the beer and enjoy a few, check your screen. If the screen displays a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) you will know the calibration procedure has failed. If so, this will require a visit to the GM dealer to re-initialize the Turboencabulator using dealer-only software. If the calibration procedure passes, you will see a flashing cursor on the screen. No other prompt will be given.
7) To exit calibration mode, first turn the car off then remove the interface. You should be able to start the car normally.
8) Pat yourself on the back & consume the rest of the beer! You have just saved yourself roughly four hours labor expense at the local dealership!
So that you may acquaint yourself with the basic operation principles of the Turboencabulator, I'm attaching the original 1962 description pages. At that time the unit was manufactured by General Electric and is presented in a much larger form factor then is currently found in our cars today.
One other note... This attached video addresses special legal issues revolving around the Turboencabulator. The information on the class action lawsuit against General Motors for sub-standard manufacturing of parts in this unit provided by third-party suppliers causing warranty claims which were not resolved in totality by General Motors has basically been debunked. Watch this video for further information. Word of warning - it does get into some technical legal-eze....
Now you've probably figured this out already but this is just a test article to insure that the knowledgebase features are working properly. I hope you've enjoyed this test page!!
