I just picked up Caprice PPV #1 from Mike Norris in Plainfield IN after having Kooks Full Length Headers & Solo High Flows Cats and Pipe Installed to the Solo Exhaust and also had the New Jasper Motor dropped and had a BTR Stage 1 Cam, Lifters, Rockers, Valves & Trunion installed. I was curious to see how close to the LS3 from Caprice #2 of 423hp/394tor. Well 398hp/396tor. Caprice #2 also has a 3.45 Camaro SS Rear Diff. Caprice #1 still has the Holden 2.92 Diff. Mike said the LS3 has slightly better heads and intake which explains the 25hp difference. Caprice #3 was dropped off for LS9 & TR-6060 & ZL1 Rear DIff install.

The LS3 and our L99 have pretty much the same heads. It is the same casting but different intake valves. LS3 have hollow stem intake valves vs ours being solid. I don't think that will make much of a difference hp wise unless you are getting into valve float. The LS3 having 12 more cubic inches then our L99 (6.2L vs 6.0L) should account for around an additional 12-15 hp. Stock for stock the LS3 favors a slightly better cam but with you going to the BTR Stage 1 is a fantastic choice for a daily driver/patrol and a moot point! Also the LS3 and L99 have the same throttle body and intake manifold. Cheap/free upgrade is to port the intake manifold and do the rod mod for around 10 hp. You don't get much, if any, on porting the throttle body. Just better throttle response. Cold air intake makes a difference if that is what your tuner was referring to.

I love this data! Keep posting!
