Brian Tooley Red Hot Cam Help.

Post by Jester01 »

2015 that I started with a DOD delete that got way more involved. Found cylinder one scared and cylinder 8 egg shaped. Bored engine to 4.010, gapped the rings for a boost district 2650 kit later next year. Installed the valve springs for the cam and did the trunion upgrade. Installed a pro torque converter with 32-3400 stall. Speed Engineering headers and x pipe to factory mufflers. I even installed the 3.27 diff while I was waiting for the machine work. I started the car today and it won't stay running or move. You put it into gear and it dies. Any suggestions or does it just need tuned? Thanks and please be nice to me.

I would suggest that it needs to be tuned by someone familiar with the camshaft at least. The stock tune can't handle managing the new airflow in and out of the motor, the new converter is beyond the stock, tight transmission tune.

Thank you. I'm trying to find a tuner as we speak. Nearest one that has been recommended to me is over 200 miles away. Sigh.

Jester,
When I went with a BTR Stage 1 cam I worked with Chris Henry Motorsports. He is a member here. He had prior experience with this cam in the G8's. I used HP Tuners to upload the tune and to data log the results. (Having HP Tuners has come in handy for me to scan for codes, tire size changes or gear ratios). I could send the data logs back to Chris and he would make adjustments and then I would upload the new tune. Just a suggestion as I would find someone who has tuned with your specific cam and combination before.

Maurice

I got the car tuned and boy what a difference. Still have some tweaks to do but dang it is fun now and VERY mellow on the exhaust note. I expected annoying without the cats. Still bumps the rev limiter but I think that's cause the tuner didn't put in the new rear gear ratio. Speedo is 10% off (ish). I hope that's it. I'll have to buy the HP tuners stuff so I can data log it and send it back to my tuner for tweaks. Thanks for the help in here.
