Troubleshooting a P0202/P0302 error

Post by dorqus »

Hello,

I have a 2011 PPV, with just over 76k miles, car is all stock (well axle back exhaust but engine is stock)

Last Wednesday evening (night before I was supposed to drive the car on a family vacation!) the car started running really rough and the Stabilitrak fault light came on the dash along with a check engine light. I hooked up my generic OBD2 scanner and I am getting P0202 (Cylinder 2 Injector Circuit Malfunction) and P0302 (Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected)

I tried clearing the codes, but they came back within 30-60 seconds after starting the car.

Got back this afternoon and tried the following

1) I moved the coil pack from cylinder #2 (front most on passenger side hopefully!) to another cylinder hoping that the code would move to that other cylinder, but it didn't.
2) I moved the spark plug and ignition wire from cylinder #2 to another cylinder hoping the code would move to that other cylinder, but it didn't.

What else can I do to troubleshoot?
I think that the next item to check is a bad injector - how can I de-pressurize and remove the passenger side fuel rail without spraying gasoline everywhere?

Thanks so much!

Would I remove "FSCM/F12" in the trunk next to the battery, then run the engine until it stalls out (try a few times) to depressurize the fuel rail so I can safely remove the injector rail on the passenger side? thanks!

Have you checked the resistance of the injector and then compare it to one of the others. I would also get an inexpensive noid light to confirm you are getting a signal at the injector. You can just bleed off the pressure using the Schrader valve on the fuel rail.

Thanks. I'll see if my local AutoZone has a noid light I can borrow. Looks like to remove the injector clip just squeeze it and then slide up the light gray part, then pop it off?

Also how do I remove the "splash guard" (not sure what to call it) around the oil fill hole in the valve cover? It was definitely getting in my way!

I would just remove the fuel rail and swap injectors around but most likely it is probably a bad injector. I was able to tap mine to get it working again for a little while until I could replace it. The oil fill tube just twists off.

Yeah that's kind of what I'm thinking - just replace it. BOSCH OK? Or should I go with AC Delco for the replacement?
RockAuto has the BOSCH injector and the AC DELCO but says that the AC DELCO needs some wiring pigtail - I don't think I'll need that as I already have the wiring there?

I replaced mine with the GM GENUINE 12639221 FUEL INJECTOR from RockAuto. Plug and play. Not sure on the Bosch.

This is what I ordered:

If there's an issue, I'll just order the AC Delco one. I was just worried because it mentions that you need the pigtail for it (which I guess I don't as it'; already wired into the car)

I would have tried swapping to see if the problem moves with the injector. I would also pull the valve cover and take a look at the rockers and springs. Make sure everything is in place an moving like it should.
