There was a little fastener below a piece of trim under the door handle.

Door panel removed...Yes GM that is a speaker...
Image
Its location is such you can't cut a hole and put a grill over it...so new speakers it is.
Image
Well here goes nothing...started with a hole saw and enlarged it with a roto zip.

Installed!

Wiring, I cut the factory harness and installed a pig tail, save the factory plug.

Finished product.

Still have to do the other side, but really easy and so worth it!

Looks very good Mike! And maybe a bit late for you since I see you used some Butt connectors but do these look like the factory plugs you had in the doors for the speakers?

https://www.amazon.com/Metra-72-9300-Sp ... +HARNESSES" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These (Metra 72-9300 Speaker Connector) work for the 2011. I Plan on soldering the leads on the aftermarket speakers then make it a plug in deal.

EDIT: I stand corrected those Metra plugs do not fit together very good at all. The G8 guys have all been using them, wondering in the plug changed for 2011? Ended up running new speaker wire from the door connector to the speaker.

Nope my connectors were side by side. No biggie as I don't see how I could use the factory ones without considerable modification to the door panel.

Sounds really nice in the car now.

Looks great. I did the exact same thing on my 2013. How is the my link on yours? Did you have to do any reprogramming or anything like the Holden IQ? Did you have sound to the rears? Did you have to make any cables?

The my Link works perfect, just like the one in my 2015 Turbo Malibu. No reprogramming. The rear speakers that were there could be heard muffled through the door!
I only had to add cable to the existing harness to reach the new speakers.
