2011-2013 CAPRICE PPV STEREO INTALL

Post by ejf2461 »

If you have any experience with 2011-2013 PPV Stereos you know they suck! 2013's are even worse because they have no rear speaker finals even though gm put speakers in the rear doors they decieded to cover the speakers up with the new 1 year only door panels. Then for 2013 they didn't put the rear camera input on the silverbox or the usb/aux input so even if you had the cable you could not install it without cracking open the case and soldering on wires like a muslim making an explosive device. Well I will show you what a little room on your credit card can do to fix this! I have installed an aftermarket Kenwood double din head unit before in a 9C3 with had the G8 shifter on the floor and got a kit from the UK which allowed a double din install and came with new hvac controls to make it all work. If someone just made a decent double din conversion kit then you could use a Kenwood or Alpine and idatalink Maestro with the OBD 2 and it would run the hvac control on the display of the head unit. But this install I did a Aussie Silverbox from ALC $325 (Automotive Lighting Customs) It has alot more power than the PPV Silverbox and will rip 15 cds and store them on the unit. Has 4 channel stereo output and another center channel power. $90 ADD Rear Camera Input, $80 ADD 3.5mm Aux Input. i Added the $40 wiring patch so my stereo shop could just plug and play and I told them I would be installing a center channel speaker so they tapped into the patch so even that was just plug in. You can also add now $250 Navigation and they intall it on the board and you just had to find an sd card with usa maps on it. They even have a $750 upgade to full Android Auto/Apple Car Play both wireless and integated into the Aussie Silverbox. I use my phone to much for Andorid Auto and at the time didnt know where to get the SD card with USA maps or if it would even work. I now do so my next 2 Caprice Stereos will have the Nav upgrade. I had the stereo shop install new JL Audio Componets up front. 6.5" Mid Bass in the Front Doors and the 1" Tweeters in the Dash, a 4" Full Range Speaker in the Center Dash Pocket and the rear doors JL Audio 6.5" Coaxials and a hole was cut in the rear door pannels. The stero shop down by the floor shifter in the cubby hole installed a trim piece to mount the Sirus Roady BT Display Screen and the USB/3.5mm Aux Plug since the Sirius Unit used the 3.5mm jack to work. The rear view camera was installed in the rear Bowtie which will be moved soon. It works decent but a little to high. Since the previous police agency had removed the nice gm rear view mirror with an aftermarket mirror that used 4" for video display for the police camera system I had to go aftermarket. I used an Echomaster Replacement Rear View Mirror. I didnt want a Chinese Strap on Mirror. The Echomaster is made right here in USA and comes with 1080p front camera on the back of the mirror and another 1080p camera that I mounted inside the car pointing toward the back seat area. The Echomaster PN #MMRC-HDDVR and also has gps, compass, speedometer and full dvr with removeable 64gb sd card. Echomaster has real american humans that answer the phones for tech support too. This is a easy option if you want a back up camera and dont wanna mess with tapping into your stereo. About $400 installed. The stereo system sounded 10x better than the stock unit and for the price nothing comes close. I will add a JL Audio Amplifer soon with DSP and 2 8" Free Air Subs in the Rear Deck in the factory cut outs. I also had the stereo shop install a viper remote start with gps. Got 2 new key fobs which are much smaller and this unit has an app which can start your car from anywhere in the usa. No more worrying about the horrible range of the Holden Keyfobs which sucked! I am really happy with the set up for the price and once I have the amp and some subs it will have everything I need.

Quite a bit of money for not a lot of functionality. A decent double din radio cost less than 100 and has backup cam included as well as DSP and Android Auto/carplay

Double DIn radio wont fit in the dash and this crazy radio also controls the HVAC unit so even if a Double DIn Radio you would then have the problem of not being able to control your Heat & AC.

I bought this...we'll see if it does well enough to keep me from spending a bunch of money on a different setup.

it actually fits a double din exactly, theres even enough space to leave the silver box in there . ton of room back there. theres also single din with fold out screens etc.

I like my Aussie silver box as well.

I have the wires terminated to add the center speaker and need to pick out some replacement speakers, but it's all going well.

For "modern" sound I just stream bluetooth from my phone.
