Driveshaft Center Carrier Bearing

Post by smwalker »

Found an interesting parts situation today when discussing the center carrier bearing on our cars.
I had come to the conclusion that since our center carrier bearing was discontinued all we could do is a new driveshaft if it goes bad.

Someone mentioned "Does the G8 fit? " I thought surely if ours is discontinued the G8 one is also!

Well.

No. The one that fits all the G8's also fits the SS's and the V6 PPV's. So the V8 PPV's got a special part??
I doubt it but I wonder. Further looking found the WN PPV's had a separate part number and it listed coverage back to the WM Caprices! So the conclusion is we still can get the part. And that last link I will put is a cheaper non GM version of the G8 part that I believe should be all the same for all the G8, SS and PPV's now that I see all the overlap in these listings.

Anyway here are the relevant parts:
92189411 - Driveshaft Center Support Bearing G8/SS/V6 PPV

92254456 - Driveshaft Center Support Bearing 11-13 V8 PPV - DISCONTINUED

92292281 - Driveshaft Center Support Bearing All Year PPV's

That would make sense because I found the number on 7zap looking under a 14 but then I can only look at the online catalogs for fitment applications and if showed fittings all years all engines:

Is this other part accurate as to fitment in the GM parts system?

Only question I have is if they are different parts or not? Seems with all the overlap they would not be.

Got the bearing assembly last week. Haven't been under the car yet to compare, but it looks like the pictures. We'll see.

Have we confirmed (in the last three years) if 92292281 can be used where 92254456 is shown?

GM Parts Giant emphatically says the 2281 doesn't work on my car, but their system isn't always right.
