Recall: HF Pittspurgh Jack Stands

Post by Mooseman »

Just in case you've been engrossed on the pandemic news, I received an email from HF about this recall because I have bought four of the 6 ton version. And I had just used them recently too.

Since we don't have HF in Canada, what am I supposed to do with them? The closest one is in Pottsdam NY, the border is still closed for at least another month and I don't plan on travelling to the US just for this or anything else. Until then, I'll have to buy some new ones from Canada's HF, Princess Auto. Theirs is very similar, possibly even the same supplier, however their newer model has an extra safety pin.

Anyway, if you have these you should stop using them and bring them back. According to this article, there about 450,000 of them in circulation.

This article says that there is no mention of actual injuries or deaths with them.

Just thought I'd let you guys know since HF is very popular in the US.

Thanks for the reminder. Most of my work team live in Colorado and play with 4X4's. I passed the info along.

When I was in the auto parts business about 20 years ago, I carried a cheap set of ratcheting jack stands that were imported. Had to have a cheap set to compete against the chain stores. It had a label that warned against getting under the car while supported with the stands. Makes you question the quality. Needless to say, I did not sell many sets of the low quality stands.
It makes me a little nervous to lay under a car supported by some American made stands.
