Question about tpms

Post by AL 9C1 »

18" stock camaro wheels. Are the tpms sensors compatible with the 2012 caprice and if so what years? I'm planning on slapping a set of camaro 18s on my car. Just making sure I don't have to swap sensors. What year camaro wheels have y'all used?

Camaro TPMS (10-15) sensors should work fine.

OE PPV sensors are "bolt-in", with an aluminum stem and aluminum nut--more rugged and suitable for high sustained speeds. The 18" Camaro wheels use a stem that mounts conventionally--rubber flanged. The PPV sensors are easily transferred, where the Camaro stems are destroyed, even though I believe the use of a correct (new) rubber stem allows the sensor to be transferred as well.

2012 Camaro V6 (18" wheel)

2012 PPV

Sensor 20925924 - listed as "high performance"

Both are 315 MHz, no compatibility issues. I would be inclined to say stick with a 2010-2015 Camaro wheel/sensor, to match up with 2011-2013 Caprice. Later PPV's have updated electrical architecture matching 2014 & later SS sedan. Not saying newer sensors would not work, but no reason/benefit to go to there.

Thanks for the info.
Second question. What needs to be done to lower the computers setpoint? The low pressure warning comes on at 35-36 psi. Got them all at 37 right now which is still too much for me.

I finally found a tech at my local GM dealer that was able to do exactly this as a side job for me since they didn't want to do it on paper. Man what a great deal that was! Do it

funny how that is....I know I'm fortunate with the tech I'm able to work with. If it was a matter of disabling the system, I probably wouldn't put him in that position, but to ask a tech to make an adjustment to eliminate a nuisance alarm is quite reasonable.

Thanks a lot guys. Finding a tech to do that at a dealership is no problem for me at all. I've worked at every dealer around here and have good friends still there. Had no idea that could be adjusted though. You guys have been a great help so far. Appreciate it.
