Control Panel - Radio/HVAC - 1st design - 92257981 (all 2011 and early 2012, including mine)
Control Panel - Radio/HVAC - 2nd design - 92268061

HARNESS,COMMUNICATION INTERFACE MDL WRG. HARNESS-MICROPHONE, Mobile Telephone Radio. - 92247567
For: EK19 (2011-2012) (2011 - 2012). Required: 01

Anyone else done any research on these?

Not yet, but i"m going to plug those numbers in over at Flow Chevy (GM Parts Direct) and see what kind of hits pop up. Closest thing to a dealer parts computer on the net right now that I know of....

tonkinonlineparts.com is a better user experience. This site at least list the 2011 Caprice in it's vehicle search.

Sorry, I have been offline for a couple of weeks.
I had some engine dramas which have taken close to 3 weeks to finally sort out.
(Failed Injector, then crimped Injector O-Ring allowing fuel to flow freely around the engine bay, then finally failed ignition wiring).

Anyways, here is some information.

This is an Axillary Audio Connector (RSE/DVD/Rear Aux) that is supplied by an well known company when purchasing the IQ video connector wiring.

Image Image

The connector can be taken apart by lifting the clip on the side, and simply sliding the internal connector bit out from the side.

Image Image
Here is the Internal Connector, and the Wiring Pinouts shown here (Nice Big Highres Image)

Image

The top left Black Wire is the Positive Audio Signal,
The top left Black wire is the Ground (Common)
The Bottom right Red Wire is the Positive Audio Signal

Here is where this connector is used on the IQ Wiring Connector.

Image Image

The Factory Stock Plug can be pulled out if the IQ wiring main connector by pressing up on the Lower Tab, and pulling the plug outward from the socket.

Image

Here is a nice Highres Picture of the aftermarket Aux Audio Connector fitted to the IQ Wiring Connector.

Image

NOTE : I only just realized that I have taken a picture of this connector UPSIDE DOWN !!!

Here is another Hi Res Picture of the Connector and Pinouts, Right side up.

SOME FURTHER NOTES
1) The Above Main IQ wiring connector is not the actual connector used on the car,
it is an aftermarket ISODIN style pass through wiring connector that you can get from eBay for roughly $40-$50 Australian.
(My Commodore is a series I model, without the factory fitted IQ unit, so the wire colours on my headunit are completely different to the factory IQ ones).

2) Here are the pinouts for the White connector on the main IQ plug

1 Not Used
2 Not Used
3 Pink - Left Audio Signal Output DVD(+)
4 Bare Shield - Common Audio Signal (-)
5 Light Green Auxillary Audio Jack Right Signal (+)
6 Dark Green / White Stripe - Auxillary Audio Jack Left Signal (+)
7 Not Used
8 Not Used
9 Dark Blue - Right Audio Signal Output DVD(+)
10 Not Used
11 Dark Blue - Auxillary Audio Jack Ground (-)
12 Bare Shield - Auxillary Audio Jack Ground (-)

I hope this helps ???

I'm getting a little confused... that looks like it's using pin 3,4, and 9...

which pins on the x3 and x4 are for the front aux in? Which ones for RSE?
What are the telephone signal pins for in X4? How and what is the aux detection signal used for?

just trying to get clarification...

Thanks!

Yeah, my bad...
Some of those pictures of the connectors are upside down.
(I.E. I took them wrong).

The X3 connector pin-out list is correct.

The pictures of the IQ main plug are upside down.

The first large picture in my post is the correct, the pin numbers from the back of the connector start at Pin 1 (Top Right,
and flow towards the left).
So that thick Black wire is the common ground

the next wire on the right is the Left Audio Signal Output DVD(+),
and the red wire below this black wire is the Right Audio Signal Output DVD(+)

----

Here is where things get confusing (It confused the crap out of me until something clicked when playing around with a local Series II Caprice V.
There is a Rear Seat Entertainment Unit, and a DVD unit.
Im not too sure which is which, but for the lower series models in Australia (Short Wheelbase models such as CalaisV, HSV Senator),
the roof mounted DVD player cannot be controlled by the front IQ unit.
These units also do not have a roof mounted speaker for the DVD player.

The high spec models (CapriceV, and Grange) have a DVD player that can be controlled from the main IQ unit.
(I.E. you can load a DVD in the roof DVD player, and select trakcs, skip forward and back, etc), all via the SWCan Bus....

The DVD audio wires on the X4 Connector are used for the CapriceV / Grange roof mounted speaker for the DVD player.
(I know confusing as F!#$)

-------

Now for the Front Aux Connector,
The Trigger wire is used to detect when a 3.5mm plug is connected to the front AUX connector.
(This line is shorted to ground to force the IQ unit to switch to the Front AUX input).

Kinda like old school stereos that would stop outputting sound to speakers when headphones were plugged in to the headphone jack.
(Just look for 3.5mm Stereo audio sockets with a 4 pin connector)....

----------
Bluetooth and Phone Stuff.
The IQ unit supports old school telephone handsfree kits. (Non Bluetooth models, that physically connect to aftermarket head units that have an Audio mute line).
The IQ unit supports the speaker output on these handsfree kits (So as you dont need to add the speaker that comes with the old school hands free kit).
So you can force a mute by grounding the Telephone mute line (X4 Pin 9) if you wanted to...

Your best bet, Use only the Microphone Inputs (Pin 1 and 2) on the X4 connector, and connect these to the Mic located in the roof mounted sunglass holder. (If fitted).

I hope this helps ?

Cheers
Matti

Matti,

Thank you very much! Definitely helps!

Another question... do you know what the contact part number is for X1 and X2?

I've found that Mouser Electronics has the X3 and X4 covers, connectors and contacts... and they are only a few miles away from my work...

Also, if you ever need any electricians tools... I do happen to work for Klein Tools... :-)

Have you had any luck with enabling bluetooth or video in motion? I noticed that after my radio was last updated, there is now a driving lockout screen under system in config... with phone, dvd, and nav text entry. ..all grayed out, but phone and dvd are on, while nav is off... makes be thing that bluetooth is there!

Luckily my car already has the the factory microphone connected...

Later!

Took a few pics of the Quadlock Connector, the last one with a mirrored bore scope camera...

Looks like they got rid of the covers on ours...

Matti,

So, which pins need to be used for the front aux-inputs?

Thanks!
