Shifter Recall for 2012 PC1
Took my 2012 PC1 in to the dealer for a 4-wheel alignment and to diagnose a "minor" issue with my shifter...it was sort of clunky going into Park. Well, I was just informed there is a so far unspecified recall on the shifting unit. They just got the complete shift mechanism in and are installing it now. The dealer does not know, due to the unspecified nature of the recall, whether replacing the shift mechnism will address the recall but those of you with '12 PC1s should reach out to your local dealer and see.

I have no idea, but it should likely be 9C1.GTObert wrote:What's a PC1?

Re: Shifter Recall for 2012 PC1
I just posted the information on the shifter recall in the TSB/Recall section. The recall applies to all 2011, 2012, and 2013 9C1 vehicles ONLY, not 9C3 vehicles. This information was obtained directly from the NHTSA website. It's interesting that it took the government roughly a month to put the recall out on the website. There's also a "stop sale" order on 2011-2013 Caprice 9C1's in effect until they have the recall service done.
There's also another very interesting piece of information in the recall. Using GM-provided information, it's now possible to roughly deduce the total number of 9C1 and 9C3 vehicles built for MY's 2011-2013. The build total involved in the recall is 7,598 units. Ergo, we subtract total units sold from the recall units, the only cars remaining by default have to be the 9C3's.
I'll be posting the GM documents related to the recall in the file section shortly.
Thanks
Eric

Re: Shifter Recall for 2012 PC1
I took my car to the stealership last week to address this issue. They informed me that GM has offered no fix for the problem as of yet.
Re: Shifter Recall for 2012 PC1
Looks like they have the parts in place now. Came across a description of the fix with pictures if anyone is interested what they will be doing to the shifter:

Thanks for posting that link.
Re: Shifter Recall for 2012 PC1
Be nice to know how many total 2011-2013 Caprice cars were manufactured and not just sales figured. My guess is that there are at least 1000 9C3 units out there just figuring the sales figured from just up to 2013. That does seem high, but could be the number.elc32955 wrote:There's also another very interesting piece of information in the recall. Re: Shifter Recall for 2012 PC1
I just got a letter in the mail from GM. It seems they have a fix for this now and would like me to come in to have it done. From their description of the problem, I'm not particularly worried about this recall. I think I'm capable of determining whether or not my shifter is working correctly. I think I'll pass on this until I see an actual problem.
