Chevy EV Blazer PPV

Post by Mooseman »

It had to happen.

Range will be the biggest factor but then also interior space. I absolutely hated the Ferd Exploder because of its interior space and I think the Blazer is about the same. For big guys like me, it will likely be a hard pass. In fact, we went with more Tahoes because of that. Add the shotgun/carbine rack, silent partner, etc, it will be a tight squeeze.

Where is the shifter? Is there no column shifter? My 2022 work car has the twist knob shifter and I absolutely hate it! It provides zero tactile feedback. You can just spin it around and around. You have to look down at it and manually twist until you get it in the right position. You can't develop muscle memory to use it. It is cumbersome. Do car manufacturers even use ergonomic or interface engineers anymore! Between bad shifters and putting all the controls on touchscreens new cars are getting worse!

They who fail to heed the hard-learned lessons of the past....

Reminds me a bit of the 2011 Caprice roll-out. "This is our product. You will buy it, adapt, and want more...". Took about 37 seconds for the customers to speak long & loud!

Never mind the Caprice rollout, they obviously didn't learn from the Impala and Lumina. They were absolute clown cars they were so small. They were better for traction in winter compared to the Vics but they were just too small, and this was before we got computers and gun racks. I did have a 98 Lumina after my 94 Caprice was retired and it was better just for the Recaro seats and traction.

I would have loved to have the Caprice as a patrol vehicle however it would have sucked in winter for traction, one of the reasons we didn't go with them. The others were cost and too powerful. Yeah, they didn't have the V6 option available yet and all they thought was guys were going to wrap these around trees. And because they were imported from Australia, they were too expensive with added taxes. The price was actually higher than a Tahoe.

We'll see how this one goes.

The numbers for the Blazer SS EV are very impressive. While the range is kind of optimistic, +/-10% is probably not out of the realm of possibilities. That's actually a bit better then the Caprice with it's really-too-small-IMHO gas tank size. The only real issue would be the 'refill time' unless you can find a compatible 'supercharger' kiosk. I guess the other would be the interior room, which, yes, will compare to the Exploder.

It will be interesting to see how they hold up with service, although I really don't see me buying a retired unit, since I'm still generally against having such a big lithium battery in my garage sitting there as the potential starting point for the fire that burns my house down.
