Caprice Parts Car Prices in the Northwest!

Post by 73TA »

It seems that wrecked Caprice PPV's are very popular here in the Great Northwest. GOV Deals auctioned off about 6 of them from the WSP a few months ago. They were all wrecked, some partially stripped for parts. Some of these cars were seriously steamrolled in rear end collisions. They all appeared to have been sitting for years. Most of them had the good parts missing like the headlights. Mold in the interior, etc. just all around junk. Most of them had about 80-115k miles.

So I bid on most them, figured I wouldn't have to pay more than $2500 for one of them, especially since they did not run. Couldn't believe that they all went for about $3800-$4200 each most of them to one bidder. Couldn't figure out who the buyer was. Well, I figured it out when I saw some L77 drivetrains on Craigslist locally for $6900 from a local wrecking yard in eastern Washington where I live and recognized the cars from the auction. The drivetrains sold quick.

Makes me regret selling my "parts" car last October for $4300. (bought for the drivetrain for a swap into a 78 TA) I had paid $3100 for it from the same location a few years ago and thought that I might have paid to much for it. I sold the car as it would only be a runner on to a trailer. It was totally stripped of every good part that was left on it. I kept every body part on the car, the only parts that were damaged from the accident were the left front fender, left headlight, front bumper cover and drivers door. I kept all remaining body parts, complete interior, tires and wheels, and the battery. Car had 101K, ran perfect.

Guess I should not have sold mine for such a "low" price, had three buyers in 24 hours, and no one tried to haggle me down. Sold it in one day to an out of town buyer sight unseen.

I guess these drivetrains are becoming popular, or everything just getting more expensive.

What! That is insane! I bought my 14 on GSA last year for $4k with no body holes, spotlight, or body damage. Needed a good wet sand and buff and interior was fine. Not beat up. Who the heck is buying a used unknown motor/trans for $6.9k! To me that sounds crazy but I guess not.

Try buying from Copart, sometimes you can get decent deals there..... sometimes.

I think part of it is the area I live in, everything in the Northwest is more expensive. I could have bought a 2013 last August from Oregon agency that had minor body damage and 80k miles for $1600. I bought the other one for $2100, that ran perfect and no body damage. The listing agency listed the miles at 146K, and didn't realize the it was KM and stated that it needed work, so most people shied away from it. Come to find out the car was just fine with 91K miles, and everything worked, ran perfect. Go figure. I did need the usual major cut and buff on the paint and I had to get a rear seat. I do need to replace the back bumper cover at some point (I have one, just waiting for the weather to get warmer).
