Of interest is the SS in the regret discontinuing, which was actually the closure of Holden that caused its demise. I definitely would have loved to buy one of those.

Interesting article. Don't agree with some of the reasons, and the 3rd Gen F-body cars were quite successful, and the Camaro was never rolled off the assembly line with a diesel of any kind, let alone a 4-cyl.

"10 sports cars GM probably regrets making"

The article is just the author's opinions. It doesn't sound like any of the information actually came from GM.

I love how they mentioned a 1978 Chevrolet Chevelle SS and show a 64. lol. I don't think there ever was a 78 Chevelle. Pretty weak article.

Still interesting to read through it. I do agree with the GN as being the #1 regret discontinuing. Fantastic car and ahead of its time when the 80's were just lame all around in the automotive world.

Funny how other critics have put the SS as a failure because of low sales and high price. The GTO made the regret discontinuing list which is puzzling as I think the G8 was more popular. It probably would have continued if not for the killing of Pontiac, which a few models listed were affected by. Who knows, maybe we would have have a G8 PPV

And for the Chevelles, the last year was 1977 and no SS. There was a Laguna S3. So yeah, poor research. He used the wrong pic from Wikipedia and also didn't bother reading it.

I was a teenager in the 80's and the 3rd gen Camaro's were as breathtaking as asthma. And it did have a 4 cylinder Iron Duke 151ci available and top of the line 5.0L wheezing 165hp in the Z28. Styling was good, power was anemic.

Yeah, the 3rd Gen F-body cars took some getting used to. They looked nice, but so different from the 2nd Gen cars that I didn't like it at first. All cars were pretty anemic back then, and the top-of-the-line 305 wasn't a performance engine by any means. I remember a friend who worked for a local speed parts house mention that one of his sales guys had a new 82 Camaro, and within a year he had already put 2 diffs in the thing. He wasn't even beating up on the thing, just driving it to accounts. I think the 3rd diff was a 9-bolt, which stopped the failures. It was so much better that my friend ended up buying that car.

The DID handle, though, and that's what I appreciate about them. So much so, that we currently own two; a 85 Firebird that we autocross in C Prepared, and a 92 B4C 1LE Camaro. I'd love to have a 2nd Gen back in the collection, but decent examples are getting stupid-expensive.

+1 on the Buick G-body. Another friend had a T-Type, and that car was nearly impossible to beat street racing. It was a real hoot to drive. Cruise to the drag strip in air conditioned comfort, jamming on the stereo, cut some low-11 second passes, then cruise back home, all while getting high-20's MPG! Great car!! I think he still has it, but not sure.

I just checked again and there was no diesel Camaro except this custom built one:

You must be thinking of the Chevette.

82 was not a year i was doing drugs or drinking , so its very hard to confuse a shitvette with a camaro , my neighbor had a shitvette gas motor , that dieseled every time he shut it off , it ran on for 5-10 minutes , and it did that for years

there was a diesel , odd tidbit going through the GM parts catalog , i found info on a 80-81 camaro with the 350 diesel , and the 3rd gen doesnt come up , but ive seen them on the lot and in the junk yard in so cal

Makes no sense except maybe they used the same parts lists for engines for both the Camaro and trucks? Back then, they used microfiche so that is possible. I had a '78 Type LT and '78 Z28 and I know there were no diesels in that gen Camaro. And a general Google search for a diesel Camaro only yields swapped ones, including a '69.

If you have docs that show an available Camaro diesel, please post. Just curious.
