So the clock spring in my Ute (built using Caprice parts) has gone bad and I finally want to put in the effort to fix it. With that being said, I noticed that there are 3 different parts for the clock springs. 2011 specific, 2012-2013 and 2014-2017. Now I know the 2014-2017 is different in many ways (many VF upgrades). The G8 (VE Series 1) and the Ute (2012 VE Series 2) are similar
Long story short, will a 2011 work if I have a 2012 steering column? Or does it have to be a 2012-2013 only?
Clock Spring Differences
Re: Clock Spring Differences
IN the VE/WM years there was a Series 1 and series 2. All years of the US caprices would be considered series 2. All years of the G8 would be considered Series 1 (Change happened in 2010 when gap of importation VE or WM bodies in to the US took place). There were slight changes to the dash for the radio, do not think the steering wheels changed much . But I think you would be safe using any US caprice part from 11 for your 12.
12 added knee airbags but that would not have anything to do with the clock spring.
Is there a drastic price difference between the 11 and 12 part? Or is availability an issue?

Re: Clock Spring Differences
It's alittle of both. The 2011 is readily available for $99 while the 2012-2013 part is harder to come across and is around $300. I also need a drivers door actuator which is also showing the same 2011 vs 2012-2013 part difference. I guess Ill try the 2011 and see if it works.smwalker wrote:IN the VE/WM years there was a Series 1 and series 2. All years of the US caprices would be considered series 2. Re: Clock Spring Differences
What issue are you having with your actuator?
Re: Clock Spring Differences
Check cross references. My 2014 clock spring cross references with a lot of cars and was $31 from GM.
