Anyone with compustar experience?

Post by BluesBro »

My caprice only came with a single key, no fob. I don’t know if I should roll the dice ordering a fob that may or may not program, and hope my car has the remote start enabled, or shoot for a aftermarket system right away.

I have a compustar setup on my avalanche and it’s amazing. My buddy who is a dealer was unsure about compatibility though as he has had trouble getting the blade system to communicate with g8s. He assumed it had to do with the Australian origin.

Has anyone installed one or something similar? I’m not totally opposed to doing an older style setup without CAN interface using relays.

I don't know anything about the Compustar stuff. I'm not sure what you mean about having a key but not a fob. These cars came with the fob built into the key (as far as I know). The fob portion has the immobilizer chip in it, so if your car runs, you likely have the immobilizer chip.

If you need to add a key to work with your car (I've done this), see here: http://www.newcaprice.com/forum/viewtop ... ing#p31420

If you are interested in a remote start solution that with lots of features (I've done this), see here: http://www.newcaprice.com/forum/viewtop ... olt#p33485

If you want to use factory capabilities for remote start, see Chris White stuff (requires sending him your BCM) here: http://www.newcaprice.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=27

Ask questions.... enjoy!

The key is strange for this one, our 2012 has the soild key+fob, the other 2014 has the flip key+fob, mine is seriously just a key, no fob. Thanks for the links I’ll read into them when I get off work.
