This made me sad. Caprice is a pretty rock solid car.

Not to belabor the topic, but here's a Government Fleet story about the pending cancellation at the end of MY 2017.

Sad to see it go. I sold mine this month because of 1) starting a business & 2) parts were getting way too hard to come by. Even selling off parts was difficult. Couldn't sell my vinyl PPV seat for 2 months. I now have a 2010 CVPI (it's soooo slow compared to the PPV) but parts are so easy to get.

I guess all GM has now is the Tahoe as a V8 RWD police vehicle. Doubt they will have another V8 sedan that's RWD again.

Maybe, but that is what most of us thought back in 1996. People back then thought all RWD cars were going extinct and they almost did but now more are coming back to market in the last 10 years. I have driven a new Caprice as a cop for several years now and I can attest the car is excellent for police work. What was not so good was GMs poor execution of the car including its release, sales marketing, service training and pricing upon initial release. What's even more ironic is that just like in 1994-1996, GM really got this car where it needed to be in 2014 with the interior redesign for many reasons besides the dash shifter and then they announced the cancellation of the car and Holden just a month or so later in Dec 2013. You would be surprised how many people I talked to, many in purchasing positions, who thought the car was discontinued three years before it actually was.

I was hoping that GM wouldn't keep repeating the same mistake over and over again and announce that Caprice PPV production was "moving" and not being outright canceled. Announcements were made a few years ago about the Holden shutdown. But I held a very dim hope that Caprice and SS would come stateside, maybe to the Caddy factory or something. Oh well. I guess business is business. Wash, rinse, repeat. Maybe 10 or 20 years from now, management will completely turn over again and this topic will be revisited and some new RWD platform will bear the Caprice name. But I bet it won't look anything like we know today. The current (and probably future) generations seems to like to start over with platforms rather than continuously improving existing ones. They seem to want to create their own legacy, built from scratch, rather than building on old experience. I guess computer models and simulations make it cheap and easy nowadays. Very different than the old days where a solid platform could last decades with styling upgrades.

Well, the order cutoff deadline is come & gone (Feb 23 cutoff). Hopefully any agencies buying last minute cars got their orders in when it was down to the wire. Guess the next cars that will come up as surplus are the majority of the remaining GM fleet demo's when they starting liquidating the rolling stock. Can't order 'em anymore so no use driving a demo around.... Impala municipal, here they come!

I was surprised to see that only 7,305 PPVs were sent to the US.
That's got to be a record for the least amount of a car model to be sold each year.

I'd be curious to know what the final count is for 9C1 vs 9C3, V8 vs V6, color, ect..
My Karma 9C3 has to be on the low end.
