Hitting Top Speed?

Post by NJ 9C3 » Tue Oct 27, 2015 10:48 pm

Recently drove my fully stock 2011 9C3 on sport shift and once I reached 131 MPH, the car automatically shifted down and began to slow down despite my foot pressed down on the gas. Now, I have heard (not seen) that stock Caprices going faster than that. I was wondering if my car was reaching top speed, and why my car automatically shifted when I reached that speed and began to slow down.

The shifting down it's from the factory so the car with shift automatically from 6 to 5. But for the speed it required a tune from any tunner with HP or EFI.

This my caprice with VCM air filter and delete cats and tune I hit 300 KM.speed on high way

Check your SPIL (Service Parts Identification Label) in the trunk (tire cover) and look for this 3-letter code on the list of RPO/SEO's:

SGT Speed limiter - Limits top speed to 130 mph

If you can provide the VIN (last 8 only) I can check for it, too.

Betting your speed limiter is active. A tune will take that out, or you can just remove the limiter only by setting it to a speed greater then the top speed of the car. I think the max you can set it to is 254 mph if I remember right. If someone in your area has HP Tuners it's a 5-minute mod, provided you pony up the dinero to unlock for your VIN. I've zapped out limiters before with my setup here in Central Florida.

Thanks

Without the SGT option, the cars hit there higher than 130 preset limited top speed with ease. Its different in some the various year models but the 2014 L77 will hit 155 before limiter kicks in. Some years I want to say it was 148 or 152 but I cant remember.

1/2 shift approx. 30 MPH
2/3 shift approx. 60 MPH
3/4 shift approx. 105 MPH
4/5 shift approx. 137 MPH
limited top speed is obtained in 5th gear.

I hit 131 on my 14 too and it down shifted but that was after a tune, I think the tuner didn't change the speed limiter
