1/8 Mile E/t's

Post by Numbah1 »

Want to share with you guys.
Me; I bought this car to see if i liked it. I love it!
It replaced my 2nd & 3rd gen Camaro's i wanted to race. Never raced before

Sophia; Silver 2013, has 168k miles, 9400 total hrs and 5500 idle hrs. Stock for now.

Track; Northern Mi Dragway. 1/8th mile track in Kaleva. 6 miles off lake Mi. A 75 min drive there.

Leaving from Idle with 93 octane, cool down is measured after i arrive at the track:

•Day 1: 9.52, 9.39 (~5/8 full of gas. 2hr cool down) **[ i leave 1 full light earlier than any1 ive talked to, ~.3 seconds]**

Few weeks later.. *disconnected the battery as the radio display is dark, AC on. Tried to fix

•Race 2: 9.44, 9.42, 9.26! (9/16 in tank. 30m cool down)
Next day..

•Race 3: 9.34, 9.13! 9.12!! 9.14 (1/2 tank. 15m cool down)
Want to race 1 time in July and start the upgrades. Going to measure upgrades w/ ETs

Not shabby for stock. What were your 20' times and MPH?

Race 3s 9.34 was supposed to be a 9.32. Oh well. That being the average time, the slips says 2.23 60', 6.16 330' and 1/8 at 78.83mph
Only other info from that slip is 594ft time lol 8.748, no 20' time/mph

I re racked and bought a different car. Black 2012 - Ember! 117k, 10k total hrs, 6.9k idle
•Test n Tune; 7/16 tank of gas. 9.20 on a 3m cooldown lol then ~1hr between next 4 runs. 9.25, 9.14 but .06 slower 60ft, 9.11, 9.05! Went and put more (5/8 tank) 93 in, came back to the lanes (no cooldown) and cut another 9.05. I was having traction issues. Leaving from idle.
The T&T started 6. About same temp as race 3 in OP and fast times came @ dusk

• Race 1; 9.44, 9.46, 9.39 which eliminated me at ~7:30. Was 15* hotter than T&T. Had ~9/16 tank. Put the front tires on the back b.c they were better, but still on steelies.
Time trial started at 5. ~ Same temp and time as Race 1 & 2 in OP.

Getting some aluminum wheels and going to 9.5 wide rears for next test in 2 weeks, CAI after that, exhaust for the last race of the yr.
Ill have to trial out a remap next season, maybe heads and/or cam next yr too

Have you tried loading the car against the converter a bit vs. starting from idle? It tends to soften the shock shock to the tires so the car can leave a bit softer. Might be something to try, since you're traction-limited.

I didnt want to be any harder on the car than i had to. I was only having troubles that day b.c the good air and the tires were shot on this new car. On the 9.11 and 1st 9.05 pass is was only a touch more than a chirp. Im just getting new tires as a first upgrade b.c the bald tires are now on the front lol

Hmm, drag slicks.... on the front!

Better tires = better traction = lower ETs. Aluminum rims will help, too. The Caprice steelies are heavy. Heck, I'd bet the Camaro steel wheels are lighter, and may be lighter than most OEM aluminum wheels.

Unfortunately, i didnt get my rims in time to have as accurate of a test as i wanted to.
So i put my orsson OTR CAI on. I thought if i had the better 235/50 tires on the back now it'd still give some good data as how much the new intake was. It didnt go well
Was 70*, so its same as the 9.05 runs. 5/8 of a tank too.
The 9.05 day:
2.17 60ft, 6.01 330ft, 9.14 @ 79.5mph
2.1560ft, 5.99 330ft, 9.11 @ 79.79mph.
2.11 60ft, 5.93 330ft, 9.05 @ 79.93mph.
2.12 60ft, 5.93 330ft, 9.05 @ 79.93mph.

Friday: No cool down. I pulled in off a road that just recovered with like a tar/rock mix too.
2.22 60ft, 6.01 330ft, 9.09 @ 81.5mph
I spun so hard it was terrible
2.16 60ft, 5.91 330ft, 9.01 @ 80.50mph
2.15 60ft, 5.90 330ft, 8.97 @ 81.1mph
If i take the 60ft times out, it was .1 average less and 1.3mph faster. But my 60ft was .04 slower.

Im thinking about putting the stock air box back on and see what it does with just the new rims, i highly doubt it'll be much better than 9.05s but i want to know after that what the CAI was really worth.

Ok, so just got back from the track. Took the CAI off. Was finally able to run with my new wheels. 265/40 on a 18x9.5 and 235/45 on a 18.8.5. They were 30lbs lighter than the steelies/tyres.
74*, 9/16 tank of gas. Low humity, same time of day as my 9.05 day. Pretty accurate comparison;
2.20 60ft, 6.03 330ft, 9.16 @ 79.79. 20 minute cooldown. Temp dropped some, 1hr cool off
2.11 60ft, 5.89 330ft, 8.99 @ 80.65
The temp continued to drop, but humity went up too
2.09 60ft, 5.87 330ft, 8.96 @ 80.64!
2.13 60ft, 5.92 330ft, 9.01 @ 80.64
2.11 60ft, 5.90 330ft, 8.99 @ 80.93
Dismiss the 1st run, i did for my 9.05 day as well. 60ft was .02 average better and ET was average .1 better average.

With some luck in 2 weeks itll be the same temp as tonight and ill re run with my CAI back on for more accurate data on it.

Soo i put the otr cai back on, had a nice 72 start of the day. Just over half a tank. Cooled the car down for 40 minutes. There was a 10mph cross/head wind tho and HI humidity
Time trial: 2.09 60ft, 5.85 330ft, 8.93 @ 80.8
Rd 1: 2.09 60ft, 5.86 330ft, 8.94 @ 80.8
Cooled off and the wind calmed
Rd 2: 2.07 60ft, 5.83 330ft, 8.92 @ 80.9
The humidity was super high, condensation covered everything!
Rd 3: 2.11 60ft, 5.89 330ft, 8.98 @ 80.8
We got hot lapped soo
Rd 4 : 2.13 60ft, 5.93 330ft, 9.03 @ 80.4 lol im throwing that last run out...

Ugh, was hoping to go 8.8x with the CAI but the air and wind really sucked.
My JBA headers came though and theres 2 race weekends left w/ 3 race between them
