My 2014 Caprice PPV 9C1 6.0L getting started

Post by CommanderAdama »

Well, now that I am here, thought I would introduce Cassie, as I have named her. The first three pictures are of her when she first came home. As you can see, she has no spotlights. She had one on the left, but it was removed and the holes covered. Since I enjoy the vehicle for what she represented, I chose to restore LH spot, and hell, added one to the right as well. The last two pictures are of the spots installed….that was fun. I do have a general question about the spots, which I will post in the general section shortly. My next project will be to replace the windshield washer tank, as it (or where it seals to the washer pump) has a masive leak. According to the service manual, this is going to be rather involved for what seems like it should be a simple task. Looks like the photo order got reversed….oooooopps

While the bumper cover is off, it's a good time to replace or upgrade your headlamp bulbs (4 per side), and your front side marker bulbs (in the bumper cover).
The coolant reservoir can be removed and flushed out.
Both factory (non SEO) horns are accessible (one on each side). Might need to install higher fuse (engine compartment fuse box) if changing horn type.
*Also, when 1st removing bumper cover: Don't pull it too far off before disconnecting the side marker harness connector (RH/passenger) side.
Finally, here's a tip for reinstalling the bumper cover: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4683&p=34198#p34198
If the nuts free spin during removal, GM sells a reinforcement bracket (includes replacement nuts), but I haven't used it....yet.

HoldON Sv - Do you by chance know the part number for the reinforcement bracket that you mention in your last section? Thanks!

Numbers 2 (LH & RH) on this list (see links below). I've never bought them so idk if they help or not. The diagram makes it look helpful, but those pics are inaccurate sometimes. I'd definitely chance it however, en lieu of replacing the entire cover, or rigging it and making it worse (just my luck kinda b.s.) 😉
Another thing is IF they are actually available or not. If you order and pay for them, and it turns out they're on backorder, Flow should contact you and prompt for a nationwide search through their network. (Double check the email you provide).

Thanks HoldOn SV,

I appreciate the info. I have a few other items that I'm getting ready to order from Flow so will just add these to the list.

Np. 👍 Considering this is Commander's build topic, I'd prefer to crosstalk via PM. No offense bro. Cheers.

Just a little tip - I always price GM Warehouse Direct (SDPC) against GM Parts Direct (Flow Chevrolet) before I place an order since an order from Flow can go up by 30% + easily if you factor in shipping. GM Warehouse Direct has free shipping on orders over $99. You'd be surprised how much money you can save with free shipping on the bottom line. Nothing against Flow, but at the end of the day it's the exact same parts and it's all about the dollar in this economy!
