PROJECT BOOZE CRUISER

Post by JUNKYARD_JACK »

So the story goes like this. I was at the house having a few vodka drinks and saw this car and thought to my self "I always get out bid, I'll bid on it once and just see what happens." Long story short I woke up the next morning and was not out bid and a few hours later I had paid over the phone for this 2014 6.0L caprice. My wife is still very upset with me lol! I am in love with this machine and I want to tear into it and make it a reliable, fun, daily driver. I have been a mechanic for 11 years so replacing the springs, rockers, cam, and a DOD delete are not daunting tasks to me especially since I have good friends that all race LS powered cars. All that being said my wife is still pissed lol so it might just get cleaned up as best as I can get it and flipped for a little profit.

Don't know exactly where this "build" is going, might be immediately onto craigslist or it might be getting a sloppy stage 2 cam and the works :D

Here it is after a few washes, adhesive remover, more washing, a little DA polisher action, and a can of metallic silver sprayed on the hub caps.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. It may shorten your lifespan but it works :D

Looks like a solid foundation. A lot of times they get retired just because they are miled out or age rather than because of a breakdown.

Got some little plugs to plug some holes in the roof from the hardware store. They fit great actually and it’ll be way better when I get some silicone to seal it all up. After that I’ll get around to cleaning to roof of adhesive residues and then I can try to take the polisher to it in hopes that the paint will come alive again.

Nice score! She'll get over it! I love my 2014, wife was okay with me getting a bigger car with more room for car seats, She's not happy with the 3.27 gears, long tubes, solo exhaust and texas speed stage 1 ls3 cam, but having a 12 second kid hauler is great and the kids love it! I don't know how I'm going to convince her I need a torque converter but it's next on the list!
2014 Caprice
Tsp LS3 stage 1 cam
3400 circle D converter
3.27 Camaro diff
Jba long tubes solo 2.5 exhaust
Nitrous express proton system with standalone fuel system
Hoosier dr2 drag radials.

I'm still trying to figure out how to edit my original post because I wanted to update it with my plans for the car. Defiantly want to get it cleaned up more and get the outside looking nice, I want some good tint and hopefully some factory Camaro 18in wheels. I like how it sits so I don't know if I will lower it or not, which is new for me lol. I guess I'm getting older because slamming the car used to be first thing I did. However I am on the hunt for more power, I think an Intake, long tubes, then a custom exhaust and the dyno tune will be all I want for now. Before all that though I want to turn off the DOD/AFM before I tear into the motor at all. One day I'll tear into it and put new springs, rockers, pushrods, dod delete and a cam. The cam I want changes daily it seems but for now I want the Tick Performance Stock Stall LS3 cam.

Oh and my first "mod" lol is grabbing the factory usb plug and plugging in an iPhone cable so I can jam out. Still need to figure out how to get the Bluetooth working.

All of this said, my wife is still livid I got drunk and bought a cop car so if she convinces me it needs to go I'll post it here for about what I paid for it first then after that I'll find a sucker on offer up or craigslist.

Played around with the rear doors today, got the handles working and I got the locks working but I can’t get the rear windows to work off the rear door switches. I’m sure there’s a fix for that somewhere here on this forum. Rear speakers work but there’s no speaker grill so something I want to do it just see if I can get a 3in or 4in speaker grill and install it in the door. I’d love to piggy back that to another speaker in the bottom of the door like I’ve seen people do on here as well.

Bought these cheap $5 speaker grills on amazon and for a short and cheap little Sunday project I’m very happy with them.

Here’s a little before and after action.

Had my friend tickle the ivories using HP tuners to change the tune up a little and cut DOD off. Now I got it unlocked and all so I can get paddle shifters soon.

Nice! Those look like the exact ones I used on my 2013's rear door panels.

A little before and after action. Bounced around a lot of ideas in my head about what direction I wanted to go on with wheels. Finally decided I didn’t want 20s, 19s I have a bit of an issue with because of tire selection. Then I decided on 18s so I could either stick with the factory tire size or have a larger selection of tires. I wanted factory wheels though because in my experience they just ride the best and as long as you’re not going for an aggressive fitment they fit well. Found these Camaro wheels for $275 and they’re mint. I really love the way it came out and it’ll look better after I get it all cleaned up.

*Also factory wheels balance out so dang nice, I don’t think any of these took more than one ounce of weight*

Also hung some Raybestos slotted rotors on the front to replace the massively warped factor fronts. So far so good, if I have any issue with them I’ll post an update here later.

The kid I bought these wheels from said he had factory lugs and then he forgot them, I told him don’t worry about it my lugs will fit it. Never crossed my mind that these lugs will look ugly on these wheels! I’m sure I got some friends that’ll give me a set of factory lug nuts but that’s me being nit picky about the little details on the car
