How come summit can do it but these guys can't? Do they not know about the "for off road use only" loophole?

That’s a good question. With Summit it’s just a check box “this is for an old or off highway vehicle, I promise”

But it’s California, the fun doesn’t stop there... but at least it’s really expensive and always on fire :)

You got lucky with the valve spring breaking at the house. I picked up a 13 about 6 months ago that had a broken valve spring. The valve head broke off after bouncing off of the piston. I guess they thought the noise would go away. It proceeded to bust up the piston into several good size chunks, attempted to punch a hole in the cylinder and knocked off part of the cylinder on the camshaft side. Needless to say it is not going to get repaired.
After seeing the damage, makes me want to change the valve springs on a couple of higher hour cars that are in my fleet.

Thanks for the details MWC, I am on a similar journey.

But I will mention (not sure if it is because I live in PA or got a good salesman) my experience with Texas Speed was very good.

Here is my list, I am about 75% done with install.
I hope to make it to the track first week of October.

My next hurdle is tuning . . . I will add comment at the end of my list of upgrades.

- TSP Stage 1 LS3 N/A Camshaft #25-TSP225236 225/236 .629"/615" 114 LSA, 109 ICL

- Texas Speed and Performance CNC Porting and CNC Valve Job of # 823 casting L92/LS3 (rectangular port) heads -Skim cut to head sealing surface, .005”

- TSP DOD Delete

- Camaro 6L80 deep transmission pan and wide mouth filter

- Torque Converter - Precision Industries 3600

- 3.27 Limited Slip Differential from Camaro

- Kooks Headers, No catalytic converters, SOLO Mach exhaust

- Roto Fab Cold Air Intake

- 245/40-18 Hoosier DOT Drag Radials on stock steelies

So with regards to tuning, I will be going the e-mail tune method with a new HP Tuners set up.

A friend that I know and trust is saying PATG. https://www.patgtuning.com/
Slightly more expensive but I think I am headed that way.

Texas Speed also has references with https://mailordertuner.com/
And I have seen FB Caprice postings regarding Charles Barber - sounds like he has a lot of Caprice experience.

Sorry for the long post MWC and other Caprice guys, two closing questions:

#1. What are your considerations/recommendations for tuning?

#2. What kind of ETs can we expect ?

PS - my wife thinks the above list improves safety and reliability for my toy, let's keep that our little secret, lol

Another Tuner would be Chris Henry at CHenryMotorsports. He is member of this forum and has been around since the G8 days. He did my 2011 9C3 with a BTR stage 1 cam and TSP DOD delete, 3.45 gears.

I plan on going with MailOrderTuner to begin with, I already have an HPTuners unit and unlocked ECM/TCM, and he says he’s tuned hundreds of PPV Caprices. But after that I may get a proper dyno tune. I’d like to get rid of my cats and install some wideband O2’s, but the car is already pretty loud with the Solo 3” setup, I don’t know how much louder I’d like it.

As far as ETs, I’m hoping for somewhere in the high 11 second range on the right tire. I believe there are a few mid-11 second PPVs out there without much more than gears, exhaust, cam, and stall.

And a tune from MailOrderTuner. Casey was great to work with.

You will go 11s if it hooks. Mine goes mid 11s with gears, exhaust, cam, and converter.

Congrats on finishing (but are we really ever finished, lol)

I went with Charles Barber for my tuning, he has been GREAT.

I have been to the track twice, best ET has been 12.13.
Several people have said I need to get rid of my stock steelies - but I love the look.

I think a wide band O2 and a little more tuning will get me 11's. (with the assistance of Charles Barber)

My details are here: http://www.newcaprice.com/forum/viewtop ... =38&t=4270
