Taking The Silver Box Apart

Post by Z09SS »

The CD player on my Aussie silver box ejects the disk, but thinks there's still a disk in there.

I still have the original silver box out of my '12 and was wondering if the drives could be swapped from one to the other.

Thanks in advance.

PS: we really need the search feature to allow for three letter words.

You could do two letter searches. Use google instead using this search term:

cd drive site:newcaprice.com

This works for just about any site.

https://www.google.ca/search?q=cd+drive ... nt=gws-wiz

That search link (THANKS!) led to the answer I was looking for even if I don't like it.

No. They are not the same CD drive even if the box is easily taken apart. And it IS easy to take apart.

The CD "stuck" in my original drive is there because I forgot to eject it before I removed it.

Since I'm replacing the screen soon, I'll try the reseat trick when I'm in there.

The odd thing is the CD ejects just fine, it's the box doesn't seem to recognize that it did. It's like a pawl or switch is stuck in the "I can see a disk" position.

If I futz around with it long enough, it will eventually free up and the little "CD in" icon will disappear.
