Right brake light and turn signal electrical issues

Post by Candyvyorn_ »

My right brake light and turn signal don’t work and it shows in the dash when I try to use it to replace the bulb. I replaced the bulb even swapped with the working side bulb and it still doesn’t work. I went in the driver side door area and replaced all the fuses and it didn’t work either. Does anyone have anything I can try before I take it to the dealership that I might’ve overlooked

Cut wire most likely. Did it ever work when you had it?

Yea it would stop working when you drove it for a hour or more but when the engine cooled down it would work again.

Problem fixed sort of. So the rear driver side door and right tail light and right brake light stops working when I drive it for more than a few hours. So I found what caused this issue. If I park in the shade at work my turn signal and brake light work. I’m thinking it’s either the day light sensor on the dash or the Arizona head getting to some kind of computer that controls that. I left my car in the sun today when I got home. But with a small towel covering the sensor. So we we’ll know for sure if it’s the heat or the sensor that’s causing this issue.

Not likely as that sensor has absolutely nothing to do with tail and brake lights. I would think more it's heat. Sometimes heat will expand metal and things can happen, maybe a connector expands and loses contact, likely a ground if both parking and brake light goes out.

In my ‘95 9c1 that I had I experienced the same issue.

I looked everywhere, fuses, relays, looked down the sides of the car.

Turned out to be a pinched wire between the taillight bezel and the body. The wire was grounding thru the body and bezel. Once I fixed the pinched wire everything worked fine.

Just someplace to look at before tearing the car apart.

Bumping an old thread. Did you ever find the solution?
The brake light and turn signal on my left side aren't working. The previous owner said they did at one point, then stopped working.
I've replaced the bulbs to no avail. The plug is getting voltage for the tail light, just not for the turn or brake signal.

What year car? Have you checked ALL of the fuses?

Mine is a 2012 and although I checked all the fuses in the main block under the hood, I hadn't checked the instrument panel fuse block behind the drivers side kick panel.

That's where I found the BCM fuses and as luck would have it, the first 15 amp fuse I checked (BCM 5, fuse F8) was burnt out!

Thanks for the tip. Problem solved 8-)
