Back Up Camera Troubleshooting

Post by SeanDockery »

I recently purchased a 2015 WN Caprice, and have been working to civilianize it. My backup camera is not working and I believe I have found the cause. I have high resistance on the camera + and camera - wires in the trunk lid wiring harness. The part is discontinued through GM. Is there a source for the plugs and terminals, so that I can make up a new harness? Or a board member with a parts car willing to sell the harness?

Might be easier to find the break in the wires and repair?

BUt I think I have all the terminal info here:

Need to add the green connector though, recently found that.

Thanks for the link! I had skipped over the sources when reading that thread.

Last night I pulled the trunk lid harness, found, and repaired the break in the camera pair. Still no image from camera. Next step is to check continuity from the trunk to the radio.

Where did the wire break occur? I would assume in the boot yea?

Yes, in the boot near where the harness enters the trunk lid.

Verified the rest of the wiring, and proper voltages on the B87 plug at the camera. Then on a whim, i replaced the camera. Viola! broken wires, and a bad camera.
