High Beam H7 LED Installation

Post by Capeasy »

Well I got my new LED bulbs, but then needed to order the retainer clips separately from Amazon. I thought I would start with the more difficult P/Side after an hr. Gave up and went to the "easy" D/side which gives you more access but the problem is your knuckles won't get past the cover opening preventing you from being able to push and lock in the retaining clip. Has someone come up with an easier way to install these bulbs? I gave up after a couple hrs and will try to just installing the retainer clip and bulb collar first then push and twist in the LED fixture.
I did the low beams a couple months ago, I just used the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, I didn't want to have crazy bright aftermarket looking headlights on this PPV .
Ok, any advise would be helpful. I'll put a couple photos up as well.

OK finally found some small hands to install them lol. A tip that helped was to use gel super glue to attach the adapter rings to the removable LED mounting collar, that leaves one less thing from moving around when your trying to fiddle with it and have to use braille to locate the two locking lugs. On the pass side we installed the collar first the slipped the LED fixture in and orientated the bulb in a vertical position to get a uniform beam.
Hopefully these last a long time.

Nice they have those adapters. We didn't know of, or they didn't exist when we were doing ours 3, or so years ago. I had to modify the factory ring assembly to fit the Opt7 bulbs we used. They're still holding up well, BTW. Since I'm now 100% virtual, the car doesn't get driven at night anymore, but when I was commuting, the morning drive was always before sunup.

I couldn't help with your install, my hands were _just_ small enough to jamb into the headlight bucket. IIRC, the modded locking rings attached to the light, so they weren't flopping around for the install, either.

And just for completeness, here's a link to the thread where we discuss LED installations way back in 2015:

Yeah I think I bought some LED plug n play lights when they first came out 5 or 6 years ago and paid at least $150 for a pair. :o

Yeah, they weren't cheap, but dam well worth the $$! I put a set in our Caprice, Tahoe PPV and GMC 2500HD. Love all of them, and happy to have spent the money on them. The Tahoe is my wife's DD, and she's frequently heading to the hospital at o-dark-thirty, and our GMC is our tow rig, so heading to racing events frequently starts in the wee hours of the morning, long befor the sun has gotten up.

I need to get a set on our 95 SS. When I installed the T-84's, I put halogens in it. They're okay, but kind of bluish tint to them, which I don't really like. T-84's with LED would be a very winning combination!!
