Front Auxiliary Input Wiring - Detection Signal

Post by Tom Slick »

Ok, I finally go a chance to test a USB/3.5mm receptacle, and here is what I learned:

The detection signal circuit is completed (to the common ground) when there is nothing plugged in.

When a 3.5mm stereo cable is plugged in, the circuit is disconnected. this is how it knows there is a device connected, and enables/switches to the front auxiliary. Now, before you go buying one and wiring it up, I do not know if this will work without Chris White's programming.

Here is the pinout for the connector:

I made a wiring harness for this and for the DVD audio today... will probably finish installing my Chris White programmed radio tomorrow...

Well, got the radio installed, along with the custom wiring "add-ons"...

Everything works! The front auxiliary input works as predicted!

DVD audio and video works, USB works...

Now time to rest and enjoy it!

Hi Tom,

I have no idea what I'd be doing trying to make my own harness for my 2011 9C1. How much do you sell them for?

I made a custom one for testing... To install it, you have to be able to get to the quadlock connector and install the harness there... not a plug and play solution... I'm very leary about selling them, because it is really easy to make a mess of things!

For the serious DIY person, I can give the information on how I did mine... the parts required (quadlock contactors, in particular)...

What does this refer to? I need the connector or cable that plugs into the driver side of the radio, i just installed my white reprogrammed unit and had no idea the Ipod control and hook up was dependant on that. I don't really want to drop another $50 on cables after all the costs so far but I'd like to make it work right...

You are thinking about the usb connector on the left side of the IQ unit.

The front auxiliary input is what this topic refers to... PM me for part info for the usb connector.
