Kayhan VE Series 2 installed, AND it works!

Post by Dut_The_SS_nuT »

So! My Kayhan VE Series 2 head unit to replace the Factory IQ unit, showed up this Friday! Happy to say it’s the first one in the States and it WORKS!

Kinda....

As far as the radio goes itself, everything they programmed the radio with works! Bluetooth, WiFi, Navigation, option for a backup camera, line out and remote wire for an amp (or amps) and Input for a DVD Player or other Video device, and some outputs for Headrest DVD players it appears!

This thing is pretty awesome... and it comes at a cost! I got SUPER lucky and won mine in a raffle, or I’d never have been able to afford it...

So, other than the cost you’re probably thinking to yourself.... Ok, what’s the catch. Well, I’ve got an answer for you.....

The catch is, this isn’t going to work in a 9C1, at least a stock 9C1.... and for that matter it’s not gonna work in a 9C3 either.... Not without some trim changes!

The short of it is, this radio is designed around the SSV/SV6 VE Commodore. And it has a TOTALLY different dash setup. The center support trim bezel is different, the silver dash trims are different, and they have these enormous ROUND vents....

The Kayhan radio itself comes with the radio, and the upper trim (Where the center speaker grate is) But it doesn’t include the vents, and the vents use different ductwork!

Our interior trim is similar to that of the Omega trim package, so our center support cover has this ‘UGE plastic bar, that would run right across the screen of the radio, and our dash trims would land some just above that!

So, if you have a Console swapped 9C1, with the 9C3 Center support, or a 9C3 and want this radio, you need,

2 Round SSV/SV6 SERIES 2 vents
1 SSV/SV6 SERIES 2 Ductwork TO The round vents
1 pair (Left and Right) SSV/SV6 SERIES 2 Silver dash trims
And 1 SSV/SV6 SERIES 2 Center support to console bezel

Otherwise the radio is essentially plug and play! I followed the install video Kayhan has provided us all on YouTube step for step
(I didn’t remove my knee bolsters or glovebox though)
They make the harness’ fairly simple, it’s next to impossible to hook it up wrong! All the steering wheel controls function, and I even get a display on the DIC of what mode I’m in (Bluetooth, Phone, USB, etc)

The bad,
*Extra trims you have to purchase
*Won’t work with a stock 9C1 console
*It’s soo new, I’m not convinced THEY even know everything it does yet 😂
*I can not change the main display from KMH to MPH ( They can’t figure out why either) I presume it’s a part of a background app, that communicates with the cluster (seeing as it displays my modes, and the radio has a Tach display)
****And it doesn’t dim with my dang headlight switch.

I’ll be sure to update again when my Reversing camera and OBD2 Interface get here!!

Otherwise, while it’s admittedly a bit overkill.... like Tesla status here, it’s a neat radio!

I purchased all my trims from LSXtreme,

Here’s the install instructions \/

Thanks for the great write up!

Too bad it won't work with the 9C1 without installing a 9C3 console (I already installed a G8 console).

If you have the G8 console, you can do it fairly easily with some trim changes! My car is originally a 9C1, and I have a G8 console!

Just an update! Played with the Torque app some more, got a layout put together I like, and ordered my $25 EBay backup cam, and installed today! So far, I’ve got no complaints!

Looks great! Does navigation work stateside? Also does spotify work natively?

Would you also happen to have P/Ns or links for the parts of the dash you had to swap?

Unfortunately I don’t have the Australian part numbers, HOWEVER, I’ve been in talks with LSXtreme over in Australia and I believe they are going to send a few whole trim setups over here for me to keep on hand. So, let me get that all worked out! Currently LSXtreme.com.au has been wonderful about supplying them as a 1 stop shop, and by the time you take shipping into consideration, it winds up costing about the same as the 9C1 to 9C3 conversion trims.

And yes, Nav works! You setup what country when you do the startup wizard on the nav app. I plan on grabbing an SIM card soon, and plan on using Waze, I’ve been playing with it on my phone the last couple weeks bc another member recommended it, and I like it better so far!

I haven’t tried to download Spotify or Pandora yet, because I made the passwords like 5 years ago 😂
