Cruse control problem

Post by Car-o-sexual »

So I am having a intermittent cruise control problem that will just shut off the cruise and you can't use it again until you shut it off. Anyone else have this?

What will help you narrow it down is if you can get a read on the codes that are present. They would not be P codes that would set off a check engine light but rather B or U codes for Body and communications codes that would help you determine what is going on. Would need a high level scanner to read those.

Here is a description of the system:

And wiring diagram for the BCM side

So finally got around to checking my error code and I got a p0575 Cruise Control Input Circuit. Does that mean I have a bad relay?

THis diagnostic description would seem to indicate it is a problem between the BCM and ECM. But that is serial data so nothing you can really diagnose with electronic test tools. Gotta break out the big daddy scannes and tech 2's for this.

Although wondering if one of the diodes in the multifunction switch are bad if taht wold be the source of your issue in that it is sending the wrong voltage to the BCM.

For $45.00 might be worth a try even if you can't return it. Just a PIA to get to and replace.

I was kind of thinking that may be going bad, as a cop car I am sure that jumping in and out of the car they probably jammed there knee in it quite a few times

Did you ever get your intermittent Cruise Control problem solved?
I have intermittent cc on my 2012. I'll take a look at the codes tomorrow to see if I have a code for the cruise.
Thanks

Confirmed yesterday that there is a code P0575 for the Cruise Control.
It looks like the switch can be bought new for about $40.00 from CarID... I'm wondering how likely it is that there is an wiring problem on only this circuit versus the switch being bad.
Anyone know if the switch in our Caprices is common with any other vehicles I might be able to find in a boneyard?

Thanks!

No not a common part across GM cars.
