Interesting finds while starting the Revese camera install

Post by Tom Slick »

I just started on the rear view camera install, and was removing the interior trunk panels...

First thing I noticed, is that it looks like everything for the auxiliary battery (mine wasn't optioned for it though)... except maybe the ground cable... can anyone take a pic of their auxiliary battery for me?

The second thing I noticed, was that the connector to the taillights has a blue with silver dot wire (contact 6), but there isn't a pin for it in the taillight connector... wonder if that is for the LED taillights only...

Anyone else notice any of this?

I'm supposed to be tearing about the dash today of my friends PPV, if I get a chance I'll try to see what he has back there.

I noticed all of these things too when doing the trailer hitch wiring for my car. Looks like it won't take much to install the aux battery. I was surprised to see the complete positive battery terminal there mounted to a plastic dummy/holder plate.

I also made use of the aux battery terminal posts under that black rectangular box (two red wires coming out of each end) for master power to my trailer harness. It's almost identical to the red aux battery junction box that was present on the front inner fender of the '94-96 9C1.

Storm,

I am planning on utilizing one of those breakers for my subwoofer amplifier! :-)

Well, I got the camera installed... works just fine!

Might try to do the wiring for the RSE audio today (Sunday)... might just relax...

After just a few days with rear view camera, I can say it was worth the effort!

Next is to get the audio connected for the Rear auxiliary inputs (RSE) to go with the working video, then to try to tackle the Front Auxiliary!

Do you have another thread somewhere here that lists all of the parts and mods needed to add the camera?

The video connector thread is the big one... I have the parts to make the video connectors... you have to have the RSE enabled at the dealership (easy)...

I bought the camera on ebay for about $20...
