Key fob

Post by No Moa »

I only received 1 key with my car. I have found several used on EBay and around. Can they be programmed by a dealer? Don't want to by a new one.

I'm not sure about 2014 and up, but keys are actually really easy to do on the 2011-13 cars, (don't need two working to make another like my old mustang lol)

in case it's the same: for early cars, get the new key assembly and a fob,
get the key cut by a locksmith
take working key and turn ignition on, then take it out and quickly put the new key in and turn it to on, (maybe its 3 times? have to look at my manual)
for the fob, turn the ignition to on, and hold the lock and unlock buttons till the car honks,
put the pieces together and done

For 2014 Adding Keys (Without SPS) – North America, except Canada

Note:

* To initiate, this procedure requires that 1 learned key be available.
* A total of eight keys maybe be learned to a single vehicle.
* This procedure adds keys only. The procedure does not erase previously learned keys.
* The keys to be learned must duplicate the mechanical cut of the current key.

1. With a previously learned key, turn the ignition ON.
2. Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning OFF the ignition, insert the key to be learned and turn ON the ignition (leave on for 3-5 seconds). The vehicle has now learned the new key and key.
4. wait 15 seconds then test functions.

From reading it seems just this one step programs the Engine immobilizer chip and the Remote Keyless entry system.

Let us know how it works for you.

Global A keys are one shot throw aways (unless you want to break it apart and replace a piece or buy a unit that can regreen them) short version is used keys aren't re-usable for 99.9% of the world.
