TAIlLIGHT REMOVAL
TAIlLIGHT REMOVAL
Anyone ever remove one of the taillights? Can you tell me whats involved? Thank you. Frank.
Re: TAIlLIGHT REMOVAL
If it's like everything else on this car, you start by removing the quarter panel.

Re: TAIlLIGHT REMOVAL
They are not to bad to remove. Getting the grey trunk liner pieces out of the way makes it easier. Remove the plastic lower trunk lip assembly, then the spare tire cover. The sides can then be "folded" to the center after removing the black plastic retainer pins. Just the usual nuts on the taillight studs. Be careful/mindful of the lower leading edge of these assemblies. The can snag pretty easy and I could see where it would be easy to break this corner of the light.

Re: TAIlLIGHT REMOVAL
Frank,
While these guys are very helpful, I'd like to add that with these cars, and all their complex electronics and all, the factory service manuals are priceless. If you plan to keep the car for very long, they'll pay for themselves. I have found the FSMs for the Caprice to be mostly-better-written than the FSMs we have for our '10 Tahoe. In fact, while I was trying to figure out how to remove the overhead dome light console (it's held in by a screw), I found a spot where they describe very well, AND illustrate well, how to connect the inside door latch and lock cables. I highly-recommend a set. It's in 3 volumes and about $200 from Helms.
I'm not trying to be one of those 'look it up!' jerks, just making a recommendation. I know how it can get, though, when you're in the middle of something, and just want an answer, I've done it here many times. I'm just finding the FSM to be worth twice what I paid for those Tahoe manuals, though. The price for the set isn't cheap, but they are worth it, IMHO.

Re: TAIlLIGHT REMOVAL
Your so right Gene about being in the middle of something with no where to turn. I am going to look into the FSM. Thank you. Thanks to all on this forum. Someone always steps up when you need help. Frank.

Heh, or the one I always like:
Step 1: Remove engine
Step 2: ....
It seems to be the easy way around the engine compartment these days.

Re: TAIlLIGHT REMOVAL
I am just trying to remove the shifter knob so I can remove the console just to clean it with a hose... I guess I will pull the heads and tail-lights so I can get the knob out too. LOL!!!

Just the driver's side head has to come off for that.
